Just a quick follow-up on this thread. I purchased and installed a billet cover on my son's 2011 Sportwagen. Turns out the lower cover on his car was made of steel but now it's got a shiny billet one. Probably worth checking your cover first to see if it's steel so you can save yourself $170. Installation was a breeze though. Pull the wheel, pull the forward wheel arch liner, remove the serpentine belt, then undo the 4 triple square bolts holding the lower pulley to the balancer and remove the pulley. The balancer doesn't need to be removed. The lower cover is held on with four 10-mm headed bolts. Install the new cover using the 2 included socket head screws at the bottom and then 2 of the original bolts up top and put it all back together.

The main point of the upgraded aluminum lower cover is to tighten the clearance between the cover/shaft/pulley so belt material can't enter into the timing area. ALL the stock covers are flawed. Also, as far as I know all the stock lower covers are a stamped sheet metal covers and have too much space for the serpentine belt to enter into the timing area.

Ah, makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. For the relatively small cost and about 45 minutes of effort it's a no brainer. It's a shame you can't see it after it's installed. Pretty cool looking piece.
