Hi all,

Relatively new to the site, dont post often, so I apologize in advance if there is a thread about this - I couldn't find anything.

Anyways, I have had my TDI (first one) for almost a year now, and am thinking about tuning it somehow.

1) Is there any way to increase HP and/or Torque? Install a chip?

2) If I chip it, does it negatively effect fuel economy?

Just wondering what the "TDI Enthusiasts" would recommend ;)

Love my fuel economy, but would love to be able add a little more power underneath the hood :D

Thanks!

PS - I don't want to get too fancy with anything, with new fuel injectors, larger nozzles, etc. Just something simple and modest.

Welcome,

There is a wealth of information on this subject in the MKVI Jetta section or if you use the search function in the Power Enhancements section.

Just be careful how you word your questions as most here are afraid of the word "delete".

Just to get you started look into Rawtek for any "exhaust needs" and Malone is a great tuner for "keeping you running when items are removed".

Don't think that creative ways of advising illegal emissions DELETES don't get picked-up.

Contact a reputable tuner and see what they say about your tuning options. A tune is simple, effective and seems to accomplish what you are looking for. Pay no attention to the second post in this thread.

Saying to disregard information that is pertinent in getting performance out of a modern Diesel engine is stupid...

Sure you can add a tune to an emissions equipped engine, but the performance & mileage gain is also accompanied by more frequent regen's.

There is no arguing the fact of that either, as a Diesel is a Diesel no matter of manufacturer, and all Diesels create more particulate when more fuel is added, which subsequently results in more regen's.

I will agree with you on one point, and that is: Contact a reputable tuner and speak with them on the performance you would like to see and they will set you up as necessary.

OP is interested in a simple, modest boost in his car'd performance. He is asking for opinions on a tune. No need for large or illegal mods- absolutely no need to mention"tuning out things that have been removed", which is why it should be disregarded.
I understand you were trying to answer his question but it may have confused him more than it helped.

+30 HP +50lbs torque, this is gained with just 4psi boost pressure increase

4-5mpg gain on fuel economy "with proper tuning "
This is actually with better and less regen of DPF.
Of course all depends on "how is done" i speak for myself ;)
