My rear hatch on my wagon has stopped opening from the outside. I now crawl into the back and reach my finger in through the access hole in the hatch. It started awhile back and would not open now and again, Thats all changed as it now refuses to open from the outside. I can't seam to find anything online as to the fix. Is there an electronic switch on the handle? It doesn't seam to push too far in when I press it and I hear no click at all..

Replace the latch about $100 from VW.
I had to replace mine recently.
In my case it would not latc and I had to tie the hatch closed.
Not hard to change, just very irritating.
I think this VW is the only car I have owned in 50 years that has had door/hatch latched fail.
Since yours does not "click" it could have connection problems and the answer would be to gain access to it by removing the hatch inner cover and pull it out to where you can get to it.
Probably a bad latch and I would buy one and replace it knowing that I might guess wrong.
I was kinda surprised that the dealer had one, but I guess that they know how unreliable their brand is and stock accordingly.

Found the problem, it appears the latch assay got wet somehow and caused corrosion to form around the two prong plug that comes from the button. I had to order a new button assy as the prongs were totally corroded. That was the easy part to find, the tough thing is I now need the small two prong plug. Cant find one in the local bone yards and not sure if a factory plug with a small length of wire is available. Anyone had any suggestions?
