All you new 2011 Jetta TDI owners out there, is your speedo way off? At 100 km/h (on speedo) according to my garmin handheld hunting GPS i'm only going 91 km/hr, at 120 on the speedo its 110 km/hr, at 50 it says 46 km/hr. Am I being too picky that I think that is BS?

yeah all vw's are like that. There is a VCDS setup that will help a bit, but currently VCDS doesnt have code helper for 2011 Jetta, so we just have to wait for a bit until it becomes available.

i think mine is about 10 off too.

My dealer says bring it in and they will look at it, so hopefully it can be adjusted. Our tourag (which came from US) is pretty much bang on.

I noticed my VWs in the past were always off by about 5kmh. Going to try with tomtom today and see what that shows..

I noticed the same thing when I used my gps. It seems to be a non-linear delta. It's pretty close at slow speeds but was about 7-10 km/hr when the speedo shows 120. Better to have it that way than the other way around - less likely to get nailed in speed traps!

A friend of mine that owns an older Jetta and a Porsche says his cars are both set up like that. He claims the Porsche mechanic told him in a heavy German accent that "Vee tell you how fast you are going und you vill enjoy it!"

All car makers I know intentionally build in speedometer error. They want to make sure that any un-intentional error is always displaying more not less speed so you can't come back on the manufacturer in the event of a ticket or collusion.

Ya but 10 km/h at 100 km/h?
That is higher than I have seen, but 6% is certainly not uncommon.

I have a scangauge so I have a true speed display and my GPS not only displays the true speed, it also indicates the speed limit on the road I am on in most areas. That little red flash when I am more than 3 mph over is a nice addition. I very seldom intentionally speed. Often when traffic conditions demand it.

I find it much more comfortable not worrying about speeding.

True, I don't speed often except the lone lonely late night voyage across Saskatchewan, where if you don't, you'll fall asleep :)

But i still don't want to be 10 under all the time either, or explain to my dad (who doesn't EVER speed) why I'm going 10 over all the time....

I have a 2009 Jetta TDI and it is dead accurate. I understand that previous Jettas' speed readings were not accurate (too fast).

I understand that some manufacturers base the reading on the largest tire that they offer. So if you have a smaller tire the readings are fast. My 2007 BMW 328 was about 6 to 8 percent fast (I don't remember exactly).

My Jetta is off by about 4mph at highway speeds. Reads high.

I have owned MANY cars/trucks over the years and it is by far the most inaccurate one so far. I thought my truck was bad and it's off by about 1mph!

You should get a BMW product. They usually indicate high too. My MINI was about 10kph fast at 100kph. When I had it I was told by the shop that it was common with BMW(they didn't offer to fix it though).

So you think it's way off? I have bene radared at 152 km./hr by a police while my speedometer was almost touching 180 km.! I was racing a youngster in his GTI who pushed me a little too much for my taste...

ALL cars have pessimistic speedometers. On purpose. Manufacturers protect themselves from legal action...Buyers may sue them if they have a ticket at indicated 96 km/hr while in reality doing 102 in a 100 zone...
