Thanks for the notice. With about a 1000 miles on my car, I'm interested to know about this stuff.

Do the TDIS have Tire Pressure monitoring? I never saw this readout in the... MDF, unless it doesn't show up?

Yes, If yours is a 2010 TDI it has tire monitoring. The icon is located inside the speedometer case and will show up along with all the other icons when you start the car. It won't come on unless the tire pressure drops by at least 5 psi.

There are just too many to list....
All new cars starting in 2008 have TPMS, it was mandated by our wonderful congress. And starting in 2012, they will all need some sort of stability control/anti-lock braking systems.

So to those just joining the automotive world:

People won't wear seat belts, so they mandated SRS (airbags, generally). Then people STILL wouldn't wear their seatbelts, so second-gen 'smart' SRS came out that deploys differently if you are not wearing your seat belt.

People won't maintain their cars, so OBD2 was mandated.

People won't check their tire pressure, so TPMS is mandated (started in 2006 on vehicles with seating capacity over 6, 2008 on everything else except some larger GVWR vehciles).

Now, people cannot seem to drive, so ESP/ABS will be mandated in 2012.

I am so sick and tired of having to pay for stupid people to share the world with me.

Oil, I've never really thought of it that way. I'll have to ponder on it, you've piqued my mind for the night!

I didn't know TPMS was mandated though. Because its so prevalent, I always assumed Anti-Lock was a mandated features years ago.

And the slip control (ESP?) or whatever you call it, is a scary feature. The concept is neat, I suppose, but anything that cuts engine/transmission power seems iffy, and when a driver like myself, in Michigan, frequently visits deep snow, its an absolutely atrocious idea: the last thing I want is to lose engine/transmission go power in deep snow.

---- Oh and I do have a 2010 Jetta, as it says below, but I didn't see an option to check it so wasn't sure if I had it. The manual says a lot about "optional" equipment, that I'm not sure if my car has, or only in different, more upgradable models. Though it seems the TDI's have a lot of the more luxury features, they just threw in with the motors. Assuming a customer who wants to pay more for a different engine will want the bells and whistles.

I just discovered the consumer TDI informational packet from a tip on this site last night, and I'm still going through their design and features of the motor. I'm trying to learn all the little tidbits about my car, but it's a lengthy process :)

+1
"they" are either incompetent or can't be bothered to actually think ahead or pay attention and the rest of us are put in danger, inconvenienced or taxed into bankruptcy because of it.

"Shut up and DRIVE like your life depends on it." (Cause it does, stupid!) LOL

I have a Golf 2010 TDI (build date of 9/09) and am wondering if these services need to be performed on all 2010s? My dealer didn't mention anything last visit.

Many thanks!

They don't need to be done unless you have a light on your dash. If you have your car serviced at the dealer, they will automatically do the TSB if it applies to your VIN when they plug into the ODBII.

I had the TPMS update, even though I never had and issue with it. (actually it wasn't until after I had an update that I had an issue with which it took the dealer two extra hours and another visit to sort out.)

I imagine I also had the O2 sensor update even though again I never knew I had an issue with it.

As with you I had no issues with my car when I brought it in for the rear turn signal light replacement. It showed up when they call up my VIN. They only replace the O2 sensor if it's defective.......so mine was not changed but they did the software update.

The other stabilizes the tire pressure sensors.

These laws, and the litigation that initiates them are designed to protect the stupids from themselves. To some extent I suppose they protect us from the stupids too. Of course, all of this stuff does complicate what ought to be simple.

I took my 2010 Golf in for a minor seat fix today and they indicated 24I4 service action is open-checked and updated engine control module software. No further repairs needed.

80b4 service action is open: secure driver's side footwell vent.

It looks like they did a software update but didn't replace the O2 sensor. I'm guessing that means it wasn't defective. Not sure what was up with the footwell vent, but whatever.

Recalls are mandated by the NHTSA.

TSB are Technical Service Bulletins used by the manufacturer to specify certain service actions that may or may not be covered under warranty or by the manufacturer.

Campaigns are manufacturer actions similar to recalls but not mandated by the government.

I wish there were options to thank you on this post; I couldn't agree more. Same for the DRL being on all the time. This was one of the first things I disabled with VCDS. I like having control over the lights myself.

But there's a time when some things are too much. I wouldn't be surprised if Bluetooth is mandated in all cars, since the majority of states are leaning towards laws banning texting/calling while driving, unless its handsfree. This would be a nice feature, since Bluetooth really doesn't cost a whole lot to implement, but some of the things politicians come up with are amazing and incredibly dumb (and this comes from someone who interned with a State Senator for a year).

On another note, which I'll repost in another thread I started, I got notified of another service campaign today - 23H1. All it says is W-RVUTB 23H1/Y1 2.0 TDI ECM Software Update. Not sure if this is related to 24I4, but my car is at the dealer for the fourth time (and third week in a row) for a faulty O2 sensor. They replaced my front O2 sensor, and I'm still getting check engine lights (as verified by VCDS). And to make matters worse, I got an error from the HVAC and Central Electronics modules as well. Has anyone else heard about 23H1? It was just released on Feb 18th.
