Hohum, Cargo area / configuration / design is as bad as the rabbit was. Fold flat pass. front seat is gone.

I wanted to thank everyone for letting me know that the rear seat cargo design had changed, I had no clue. This actually might work out better for me. In my MKIV Golf, whenever I fold the rear seats all the way down, it forces me to sit closer to the dash and it's really uncomfortable! I hate folding down the seats for anything except a short drive. Long drives are torture.

I drove a new GTI yesterday after stopping into the dealer to pick up a part.

Here's to hoping that the TDI Golfs feel the same. That car drove like a dream. I was really contemplating putting the deposit on the ONLY TDI that the dealer would be receiving in late October. 4DR Blue Graphite 6spd Manual with sunroof and some other options. But, my little TDI wouldn't let me, 5yr 112k isn't old enough to start shopping for a new diesel...

I have to agree. I sat in one today and in reality it did not seem much different from my 04'. The interior felt and looked about the same and the hatchback area actually lost a little of it's depth. The floor of the area seemed quite a bit taller. The price was just over 20K and it was a light blue 4 door. The new front end was much prettier in the flesh.

I sat in a gasser Golf today at Scott VW in RI and was pretty impressed. I'm 6'6 and a bit on the wide side, but I had to actually move the seat forward a bit to be comfortable. And there was room behind me for a person with legs to actually sit. These are things that aren't normal when I'm driving a car.

The seats are a bit more bolstered than my old Jetta, so this might finally be the motivation for me to lose a few pounds to make it more comfortable. Still, I'm definitely going to pick one up as soon as I can. The sales guy looked in whatever system they look in and didn't see any allocation.

Oh, they also had one 2010 JSW TDI on the lot that was already sold. Darned nice looking too.

Right. The payback is 100k miles or so, AND you get those goodies to boot. :)

Oh, and resale value will be higher, too.

I think it's interesting that the Navi unit is only available on the TDI versions. That'll tick off some hopeful gasser Golfers.
In Canada we can't get Xenon lights/Nav/Advanced Sound system with the TDI Golf either... That tick's me off

Canadian prices online today

Oddly, I had a similar experience today. I'm 6'4", sat in a 4 door Golf, pushed the seat all the way down and back. Then couldn't press down the brake pedal or gas pedal. Very weird. I then tried to sit in the back seat. That was still tight tho.

SnowCub, which dealer did you stop at to see this? I was in Tewksbury the other day but didn't see a new Golf there.

Well, not a tall person in the back seat :)

But yeah, with my seat forward a little bit, and a shorter person in the back, it would be a LOT more comfortable than my 01 Jetta. Actually the space felt more like my 04 Passat.

I stopped into Wellesley VW, they were just unwrapping the Golf 4 door but they let me check it out in the service bay.

Colonial VW in Westborough, MA only has 2 door GTI's.

MinuteMan in Bedford, MA has a one 2 door and one 4 door GTI, haven't checked for any Golf's yet.

Official Features Released for US 2010 Golf

I got an email with a link to the new page for the 2010 Golf on VWoA's website. Complete with price listing for gassers and the TDI's. The lame thing? We don't get even the option of the fancy features of the Euro Golf: Autopark, Rear Camera, Active Suspension, etc..

The all-new Golf is almost here and it's bringing a brand new interior. With an optional navigation and entertainment system that features a 6.5" color touchscreen monitor and a 6-disc CD changer, the inside will feature just as many sights and sounds as the outside.

Pair that with optional features like a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel and Bluetooth® capabilities, and you're ready to hit the road.

But words hardly do this immaculate interior justice. So check out all the features and specs, and see for yourself why the all-new Volkswagen Golf was named the 2009 World Car of the Year.*

Golf: Starting at $17,490.** TDI models starting at $22,189.**

Sincerely,

Team Golf

I took a trip to my local dealer today to check out the 2010 GTI and gasser golf. I'm very pleased with the mk6 styling, and it looked twice as good in person as I'd hoped. I really do like the grille; the parallel lines flow well with the airdam and add to the width, making it appear more stable. Much preferred to the gaping maw of the mk5. The touchscreen radio is indeed very upscale. Speaking to the general manager, he was very pessimistic, and irritated, about the TDI's North American release. He was originally told October, then November, and now December/January, which he said meant early spring in German.

He also grudgingly related an anecdote about the 8 month delay of the '09 Jetta TDIs.

So I'll check back now and again for the brochures to appear, put a lid on my excitement, and let it simmer through the winter.

edited for redundancy for redundancy.

This is what I'm hearing now from the dealers near me in NY. Spring of 2010 for the TDI Golf. The dealer I spoke with told me they were disgusted (he didn't use that word but that's what I took his tone to mean) with VW corporate. They could sell a couple of dozen TDI Golfs right now if they had them.

I smell POLITICS here. GM and Chrysler are owned by one man named Obama. They (He) wants to sell the Volt and Cobalts from Government Motors and whatever crap economy car Chrysler makes. Tens of thousands of VW diesels would drain the sales of the above mentioned crappy cars. Just a conspiracy theory on my part. I'm guessing there's some "paperwork" or "environmental issue" holding up the 2010 Golf. Just a guess.

Take off the tinfoil hat, son.

I don't suppose that the fact that the 2010 Golf was recently named "World Car of the Year" -- and due to the MUCH higher popularity of the Golf in other parts of the world -- has anything to do with it, and that those markets will need to be supplied first?

Oh, we did indeed land on the moon, too.

See my previous comments on this... no conspiracy theory is required.

Rear seat bottoms in our 99.5 are a snap to remove, Press on the bar/rods and pop them out. Done it quite a few times.

Where would I then store the seat bottoms? I can see that working if I plan to haul something but if I hadn't planned and needed to fold the seats do I throw out the seat bottoms and buy a set when I get home?

So you're saying that the back of your Golf was so completely full you couldn't put the seat bottoms in there? If that's the case, then just leave the bottoms folded down and deal with the reduced legroom for that trip.

This seems silly to me. I've had to take my Golf's cargo cover off for large loads before, but I've never said, "oh, well, I'm going to have to throw out this cargo cover and get a new one when I get home..." I slide it alongside or put it on top of whatever I'm hauling.

I'm reminded of this story:

A lady was standing outside her Porsche, stranded because she couldn't get in. The battery on her remote keyfob was dead. She was distressed, and she enlisted the help of a passerby who helped her -- by sticking the key in the door's handle and unlocking the car. She was so used to using the remote that it never occurred to her to use the key to open the door.

That happened to me in my Subaru - but when I used the key the alarm went off! I think on some cars you need to signal to disable the alarm....

Actually I have found the seat bottoms and headrests to be an asset sometimes to brace and/or pad the load. At times I have left them in the garage or in the pass. footwell. It really has never been a problem. I guess it all depends on what you need to carry.

I guess the bottom line for me is really less space and less versatility in the VI vs. the IV (or the V for that matter) = VW fail.

Picked mine up last night. 6spd DSG, multimedia pkg, panoramic roof, suhweeet. The interior(cloth) is almost as nice as my '08 Audi A4, honestly, and that's saying something.

Hello VW, think you could see your way to send a cloth interior in the wagen south to the USA???

Chris
The (gas) 2010 Golf (hatchback 5dr.) I saw was WVW production.

The 2010 TDI Jetta sportwagen (Golf Wagon in Canada) I saw was 3VW production.

This was in the USA, 'Golfwagon' was posting from Canada (where he can get a cloth interior in the Golf Wagon and we can't in the USA) but I'm guessing it's the same there as far as final production location.
