The fact that your car has been involved in an accident does indeed lessen it's value . Whether you are or you are not able to make a claim for "loss of value" is a state by state issue . In Pa. the insurance industry lobby has enough influence that we citizens are unable to pursue a claim with the offending party's ins. carrier . That is not the case everywhere . I suggest you research the issue and determine from what you have learned what your next move will be . First and foremost do not have a conversation with the offenders ins. co if you can help it . First Gather your info and then speak to them and push them for an additional sum of money to compensate you for your loss . Do not try to recover money's for your time , that would not serve you well . If your dealer is willing ( they should be ) have them provide you with two written appraisal's . One as a car that has been damaged and had body and paint work and the second to reflect a car that has never been damaged . I would try for $2000-$3000 . Also , just as important will be" YOUR" choice of repair facilities . If you don't know , find the very best auto body shop in "YOUR" area . Make there ins. pay for your vehicle to be towed to that shop . That is your right , do not lose sight of that important fact . Before work commences take photos of the damaged area . Inspect the work carefully when you pick up the car and keep an eye on the paint work for several months thereafter as substandard repairs might not show up initially . Paint and body fillers can change over time . They can shrink or fracture or show sanding lines etc...
