OK, so I'm not that creative with thread titles...

Had other issues, see other thread... Now, 3 days after service, getting fuel leaking from the fuel filter area. Took it back to the shop that did the work, for other issues from that work... and the sudden leak.

They say it's the aux fuel pump, or hoses, or something. They want to change the pump assembly, apparently any hoses in the area, and the fuel filter. Want $895, such a deal. I found a post about this elsewhere on the site, where Oilhammer said you can get just the pump for a fraction of the assembly price, as well as possibly tightening the filter to pump hose barb might stop a leak.

Wondering what I might want to know about doing this job, if I'm going to tackle it myself. I have a HEX-COM, so any pump purging could be done, if needed. If it does turn out to be a lot of hassle for some reason, I may search for another shop, hopefully one that has some TDI knowledge, but that seems pretty scarce in SoCal OC...

Need help fast... my driving option is borrowing a 98 Merc Grand Marquis.... that gets 17mpg!

Sounds like a Common Rail car. What year is your car OP?

There are just too many to list....
You can buy just the pump, the Bosch number is 0 580 464 121

The VAG number is 5N0-906-129-B, but that will be the pump with the mounts and bracket, for over double the cost, and you probably don't need all that. It isn't very difficult to R&R. Hose clamp pliers help, I use AST brand, SCP2014, they work great.

But sometimes it is just a loose barb on the outlet side just needs to be retightened on the pump, the end pointing towards the front of the car.

Thanks for the reply... Any hazards in working on this, purging air, etc? And, if it's been leaking a lot for several days, what's the likelyhood of coolant hoses or other things getting damaged by the diesel? Lastly, what's a good way to clean diesel off of engine parts and compartment?

Spray with break clean and dry with compressed air.

The two items that are first to take a hit and get ruined with fuel are the rubber pump mounts (which means you WILL have to buy the whole assembly) and the coolant hose coming from the bottom of the bottle to the engine, which has clip that holds it to the fuel filter housing.

Days, weeks, months? I think I've had very small weeping under that multi hose clip area for a long time, but this is sudden puddles under the car, since getting it back from the shop last week.

I've got so much going on, I'm almost ready to let them have the second bend me over the barrel, so we can more quickly resolve the first (ECU replacement) barrel bending over... much as I hate to.

Can you partially remove it to tighten that hose fitting, or do you have to pull the whole assembly? Haven't had time to look up any tutorial videos or such.
