2010 Golf Wagon
Hi All,

First post here. Signing on the dotted line this afternoon for a 2010 Golf Wagon and I have a question regarding retrofitting the stock RDC-510 (that the Canadian Highline models come with) with an RNS-510. So frustrating that the RNS-510 isn't an option here up north!

I'm wondering if any Canadians here can give me some advice in terms of whether it's an easy DIY project or perhaps whether I should go to one of the recommended shops in my area and have them do it. Is there any particular place where I'd best purchase the unit from Canada?

Lastly, I'm wondering whether the Canadian 2010 Golf Wagons are coming with the 9W2 or 9W3 Bluetooth module. From what the dealer tells me, they used to add a $1000 multimedia package to Comfortline purchases, then charge $375 for the Bluetooth. He said now it's a single $1300 package for the Comfortline, which includes both. He seemed unable to tell me what is the case for the Highline that I'm ordering. Online there is a $375 Bluetooth option, and the RDC-510 and multi-function wheel are included. Am I likely to get the 9W2 or 9W3?

Note that this isn't for a car on the lot - mine will be for one on an order they have in, due in 2-3 months...

Thanks in advance!

Canadian Confusion

I too have a Canadian TDI wagon on order. I am getting mine as a Comfortline trim package and added the $1300 package that includes Bluetooth. The Bluetooth that comes with it, according to my dealer, is the low end 9W2.

Hope this helps.

My Golf came with 9W2, but its a 5dr and not the SW. I think SW's were a different ball game.

As for RNS, just keep your money and go buy a portable GPS. I think the price tag doesnt justify the need or use honestly. If you want to go that route, i think you have to have vagcom and most parts are plug and play. Just need to get the GPS antenna.

I'm not Canadian, so maybe I shouldn't answer this one ;)

Your Golf wagon will come with the 9W2 module unless somthing has changed recently. The 9W3 module can be swapped in for the cost of the module, which goes for about $350 USD.

The RNS-510 can be installed by yourself. It's not a super difficult project, however it will require access to a VCDS to get the unit coded properly. I don't know what your level of comfort is with working on your car, but I'm your average enthusiast and I give this project about a 4 out of 10 for difficulty.

I did a pictoral How-To on this so you can get an idea of what all is involved. The install is pictured on my '09 Jetta Sedan, however the implementation in a Golf wagon should be almost the same. RNS-510 Install HowTo

The RNS-510 is in a league of it's own. It interfaces with the car in ways no aftermarket unit can. It costs a little more, however the features, the look, and the quality are definitely worth it in my book.

Yep you guys are right. Apparently it's coming with the 9W2 but they are going to figure out what they can do once it arrives. He said they're willing to swap it out for me and install the 9W3 if we like, they just need to figure out the easiest way to do that on paper.

Interesting for the chinese knock-off. What is the quality like? Cost? And where would be the best place to pick it up?

I'm assuming if I installed the knock-off I'd still have to track down someone with VAG-COM...

In any case... signed the papers and will soon be the ecstatic owner of a platinum gray Golf Wagon highline! First new car. Seriously so excited for it!

Great, thanks for the link! I'll continue to investigate this one for sure :)

Did they finally add bluetooth in the multimedia package on the Wagon?
I thought we didn't get bluetooth in Canadian-spac Golf Wagons...

The $1000 multimedia package in the comfortline is now $1300 and includes the bluetooth. In the highline the multimedia package is standard, but you have to pay $375 for the bluetooth

OK, great to see VW reacted to the problem.
And is it the OEM BT module or an aftermarket one?

"9W2" ? I'm a newbie at this. As far as I know 9W2 has always been the low end version and 9W3 is the high end, but both are OEM right?

Both are installed at the factory by VW.

Does anyone recommend getting the dealer to install the bluetooth?
Before the Factory blue tooth option became available my dealer was offering to install the Volk-L dealer add on. My understanding is that it has more or less the same features as the 9W2 (low end) module from the factory. The dealer was going to charge me $500 for that, which is more than the $300 increase between the old $1000 multimedia package and the $1300 now being offered.

This applies to Canadian Golf TDI Wagons...just to be clear.

I was wondering if it was the 9W2 factory installed module or the Volk-L dealer installed kit that was now offered.

I got my answer with the last posts ;)

It ain't a wagon - but I can verify that my 2010 Jetta Sedan Highline came with the 9W3 module...
My sales guy was pretty sure the Jettas came with 9W3 but needed to check to confirm and none of the "techy" guys were around at the time to ask.

Did i understand someone to say that VW dealers would swap your 9W2 in a 2010 JSW for a 9W3 for $375?

I seriously doubt that many dealers would do it all and, if they did, it would have to be done BEFORE you drove the car off their lot as part of the original purchase. You can easily buy the 9W3 module and do it yourself...takes all of 10 minutes or so to swap it out and then all you need is access to a VCDS to program it correctly.

$375 was the cost for the 9W2, to add it to the order. The dealer has offered to swap it out before we take possession (like securityguy suggested). The cost would be less than if we do it after the fact because they will give us "some form of credit" for the swap. I'm assuming it still won't be worth it.

I have access to VAG-COM and don't mind ordering and installing the part myself. I'd also like to order the RNS-510 but I'm not sure the best place to get it, from Canada.
