Dear BC lowermainland Biodiesel users,

I just went by my favourite BD pumps in south burnaby to fill up only to notice their sign that they are discontinuing their sales of BD effective 01Jan2010 due to a new BC gov't 22c/L tax on biodiesel. I was shocked. This doesn't make sense.

I know biodiesel isn't totally green, but I do like supporting alternative fuels as we have to start somewhere.

Cascadia biofuels website is no longer online- we might be losing all BD in BC... I have not heard any prior announcement of this tax.

Does anyone know anything else?

Just another example of Gov't thinking people and businesses are sheep. There will likely be less tax dollars flowing. That or there is an effort to end BD.

I just stopped by the Byrne road Autogas today as well, and I noticed it too! What an outrage!

I can't find any mention of it online though..

Renewable Fuels
Effective January 1, 2010, ethanol and biodiesel are no longer exempt from tax under the Motor Fuel Tax Act as a result of the coming into force of the renewable fuel standard under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction (Renewable and Low Carbon Fuel Requirements) Act. Motor fuel tax will apply to ethanol and renewable diesel fuel at the same rate as the fuel with which it is blended. Motor fuel tax will apply to 100% ethanol at the same rate as clear gasoline, and to 100% renewable diesel fuel at the same rate as motive fuel (clear diesel). Renewable diesel fuel includes both biodiesel and hydrogenated derived renewable diesel fuel.
In good news, it says that B5 will be mandated
The RFS requires that the total volume of gasoline and diesel class fuels (i.e. light fuel oil) sold in the province contain an average of 5% renewable fuel.

Booourns. That sucks. Never heard of this until today.
David Emerson (Liberal Federal Environmental Minister circa 2001) mandated B5 as well back then. Part of Canada's Kyoto commitment... so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Anyone check any other locations?
