-Paid - $24,321 ($748 under MSRP) + $299 Doc fee and taxes

-No problems
-39.8 mpg on MFD2 which I understand from reading other posts is very accurate and 300 miles to empty

On, several sub/hgwy trips of about 20 miles to 80 miles, I've averaged about 42 mpg on the MFD. IIRC, the first 50+ miles on MFD2 showed about 25 mpg average probably due to test drives like I took of 7-8 miles with many traffic lights and maybe 2-3 miles of interstate and idling for 10+ minutes while looking at the car.

When I initially started looking for a new car in early September, one dealer was charging MSRP + $3000. Others, were putting add-ons at what appeared to be double the cost like tint for $599. By the first week in October, most dealers were down to MSRP. I also noticed that most 09 TDIs that dealers had at the beginning of October were still available at the end of October. Hence, at least in Phoenix I believe you can definitely deal now.

Question about the footwell lighting - are the lights supposed to stay on when the driving lights are on at night, or do they only engage when the door is open? Mine turn off after the door closes.

-Car delivered with rear wheel low pressure and car either came with or developed an out of alignment problem (pull to the right). Dealer performed an alignment a few days ago. It seems much better, but I'm keeping an eye on it.
-Tank 1 (dealer fillup on Exxon) - 37.9 on 20 City, 35 Country, and 45 Highway
They shut off when the interior lights go out.

Got metallic dark gray Jetta Auto on Sept 29. Got about 1600 miles. $400 lower then MSRP

Drive from Central Jersey to Newark everyday (22 miles each way). Some highway lots of traffic. Avg about 34 MPG on these trips. Best MPG around 43 all highway. Still waiting for MPG to get better ( I hope).

All in all I love the car, fun to drive, quick, great cornering.

Unfortunatly when I first got the car Diesel was about $.50 higher then gas now its almost a dollar higher. Good news, I saw first $2.99/ gallone off Route 22 in Hillside NJ.

Two issues:
Sun glass holder is a joke though, way too small.
Only other problem is that I feel the brakes could stop better. They seem to feel like you really got to push thme down very hard if you got to stop very quickly. Kind of scares me somtimes. Maybe cause I'm having too much fun driving quickly and taking advantage of the turbo's torch.

One wish is that I can turn off the daytime running light. I don't like them but the only way I see to turn them off is the Emergency brake but the idiot light and sound come on in a few seconds.

Still all in all it a great car, love to drive it and am happy I bought it.

I've decided to try a different approach with this thread - PLEASE, ONLY current owners of the new 09 TDIs, list as much of the following as you can:

-Sedan or Wagon
-Manual or DSG
-When delivered
-Price paid [no not include taxes and fees - just the car] relative to MSRP
-Current miles
-Any problems? Fixed? Not? Tell us the story
-Fuel consumption data
Hi...glad I found this board. Long time VW owner...starting with a 65 beetle...74 beetle...then, in order, 80 Rabbit LS Diesel, 81 L Diesel, 84 Turbodiesel Rabbit...you get the idea...

Anyway, in answer to your survey: just took delivery on an 09 Sportwagen TDI (else why be here...:)). 6 speed manual, delivered from Colonial VW in Feasterville PA. Was on order since August...but one came in with the sunroof in the same color and interior, so, being it was the last day of the month...paid the MSRP of my original order and got the sunroof...

At almost exactly 300 miles since then, and indicating right on a half tank of fuel. Assuming the gauge is more accurate than a GM gauge, that works out to about 7.2 gallons used to go 300 miles, which works out to about 41.1 mpg combined so far (about 1/2 city, 1/2 superslab) give or take. I've seen as high for a few miles as 58.9, and, with some aggressive acceleration, numbers that would equal my old caddy seville I turned in as a trade.

Based on the info here, I see that I may be babying it just a little, so, I'm going to let my right foot have some fun and get the turbo to throb a little more often.

No complaints so far. Every time I jump in and fire her up, I get a smile on my face. I'm liking it so far...and it seems screwed together just fine.

Hope this contributes to the corporate knowledge

Great thread.

I have started looking for the TDI, and this thread has really helped me make decisions.

Here is what I have decided thus far:

TDI Wagon, with Sunroof, NAV and rear air bags
DSG
Can be Purchased for MSRP or just under
FWIW, the nav package is specified, but not going to be delivered before march or april next year.

-Any problems? Fixed? Not? Tell us the story Rear interior reading lights no workie. Wife said she noticed very dim at one point. Fuses are fine. Dealer mentioned bad/poor connection at the connector, and said the headliner had to come out  I find it hard to believe that JUST the light cover can't be popped out. Also, bad prep at the dealer resulting in extremely dirty wheels after a few miles (guy managed to get tire shine allll over the wheels)
-Fuel consumption data 37.5mpg (with the first 8 miles from the port and a few minutes of idle time here and there). Also, have a 150 mile 'journey' with MFD showing 47mpg!!

No problems to date, except keeping my wife from stealing it.
Fuel consumption: Averaging City 28-32, Highway 42-45. MFD and hand calculation usually within 1 or 2 mpg of each other.

My first diesel...I love this car. This is my 4th new VW, and my favorite so far. Well, the 84 Rabbit GTI will always have a special place too...

-No problems, except the DMV screwing up getting us our tags. Our 30 day tags expired, and then managed to break off in the rain on my trip up to MD. My fake NC Temp tag taped to the rear window will have to suffice until the dealer can get me another 30 day tag.
- 31-32 with the wife taking lots of short trips around town, but on my current business trip (400 miles) I netted 43 mpg before getting bogged down in city & stop n go driving.

-Price: MSRP :(
-~700 miles
-Problems: Hard starting on initial tank of fuel. Fine now. Slight rattle sometimes from pano roof...going to ignore for now (possible that snow/ice is causing the rattle). Loose interior trim piece that I will probably ignore for a while, unless it starts to rattle. It's in a spot that no one would normally touch, and warranty work is such a pain. Rear hatch must be slammed rather hard. I'm a bit disappointed overall with build quality.
-Fuel consumption: low/mid 30s MPG on initial tank, high 20s with winter weather (single digit F temps in the morning, slow traffic due to ice and snow, etc.).

No real problems, squeeky brakes right before my car comes to a dead stop.

Fuel Consumption: City: 30-32mpg
I only drive in the city, so it's decent, but not stellar on fuel.

No MFD on mine :( mileage calculated by hand

-Fuel consumption data: Low 40s with winter fuel. Mid 40s before that. Hand calculations usually beat the MFD. Worst tank was 38.5 with lots of short city trips mixed in with about 50% highway. Best run was 50 on the NYS thruway averaging 67 mph with a 30 mph tailwind. Worst hwy run was 39 heading into similar wind with winter fuel.

Fuel consumption.... 36.4 to 40.8 (nothing under 36 MPG) The 40.8 was on a 500 mile trip.

My only complaint (same with our 97 GLS) poor lower back/lumbar support. Purchased Obus Forme backrest- my back feels new again!!!

-Fuel consumption data: average 38.1 overall with mixed city/highway. Averaged 38mpg driving 80mph w/ cruise on from Austin, TX to Flagstaff, AZ. Can average 43-46mpg driving 62mph on highway. My average MPG has gone down about 3mpg since the cold weather hit. I drive 10 to work everyday so in the cold the car doesn't get warm until I get to work.

-Any problems? Today DSG stuck in gear, dash lights flashed 'PRNDS', car revved to 5k w/o upshift (wife said), probably banged the limiter :( . Turning car on/off fixed it this time, but this appears to be a past problem with VW's DSG that may still exist in the '09.
-Fuel consumption data: Almost exactly the same as Cimarron13. Practically speaking, 38 avg. 60/40% highway/city. Dropped about 3mpg since weather got cold. Can do up to 46mpg @65mph with coasting/drafting, but that's it.
