I've decided to try a different approach with this thread - PLEASE, ONLY current owners of the new 09 TDIs, list as much of the following as you can:

-Sedan or Wagon
-Manual or DSG
-When delivered
-Price paid [no not include taxes and fees - just the car] relative to MSRP
-Current miles
-Any problems? Fixed? Not? Tell us the story
-Fuel consumption data

The idea here is to confine the thread to real-life experiences from people who actually are driving the car - none of the dozens of other threads out there seem to apply. I'm looking for the posters to be people with hands-on data. (The rest of us can read, but keep our comments to ourselves....?)

Bought right off the lot, there were 7 to choose from

MSRP $23,939, paid $23,000

461 Miles

The car just started feeling a little weak on the commute home today. It was still on the dealer's fill, so I filled it up tonight and will see how it runs tomorrow. Who knows, it may just be part of the emissions systems functions.

38.7 mpg by the info center. I'm not going to do pen & paper 'til I get some more miles on it.

-MSRP + markup, :(. I don't want to say how much, it sucks. However, every dealer in the city was the same or more, and I didn't want to spend the same amount travelling somewhere else to buy it. Considering my equity though, my loan on a better, more loaded, car is less than what I paid for my 06 pkg 0 TDI.

-Almost 700.

-I have a "squeak" of sorts from the front suspension. It's not high-pitched at all. It's more of a low-pitched 'rub' sound. Also, tint needs redone. Glass wasn't cleaned properly before install so each window has specs of dirt that the tint won't seal around, causing bubbles. Plan on discussing both with the dealer when I go to get my plates.

-41mpg per the MFD so far. Only on my second tank of fuel right now. 50 hwy / 50 city. I use cruise control every chance I get. I cruise 62-65 on the hwy, and 40-45 on the regular roads. My hwy only portion of my driving can avg close to 50mpg.

I called 7 dealership over 2 weeks, looking for black on black, DSG, w/sunroof. All wanted to sell me what they had on the lot/coming to thier lot and a couple dealerships had the car but wanted MSRP + premium.

I've been driving according to the DRB - break in method. Once I hit 1500 miles, I'll drive like a normal person and I expect my mpg to increase dramatically.

Wagon, DSG, Oct. 8th, A little over msrp but close to home. 420 miles, No problems, 1st tank: 31.6mpg on the MFD.

Have gotten on it a few times now and am very impressed with the torque feel of the car. IMO comparable to a ALH engine with RC 2 type feel.

-Sedan or Wagon: Sedan - no sun-roof
* Blue Graphite, Splash Guards, 17" Avignon Wheels, Tinted Windows
-Manual or DSG: DSG
-When delivered: Augus '08
-Price paid relative to MSRP: MSRP + (Okay I was impatient and when I saw the car with the options and color I wanted, I was willing to pay a little over)
-Current miles: 1,000
-Any problems? ODO Reset Button, Glove Box Light
-Fixed? Yes
* The trip odometer reset button would not pop out once pressed in to reset the trip mileage. The button would hang up and not spring out. The glove box light was also out. I had to waite for the part to come in and visit the dealer a couple of times to have the problems fixed. Everything seems to be okay now but I was a little worried about having my new cars cluster torn into.

-Fuel consumption data: about 40mpg (mixed but mostly highway on work commute)

I really like the car so far, great torque and acceleration once you get used to the initial lag when moving from a stop.

I get 38.6 usu. by calc. I can't keep my foot out of it - my first diesel and impressed with the awesome torque. Kind of like first good girlfriend - just wonderful. Really want more - would like to see VW put a tdi diesel V8 in something light like the Jetta. Why not a long hood 4 seat roadster like they used to make? Maybe a straight six or five. Is there some kind of law against a high power to weight ratio? paid more than MSRP but dont care - wanted a diesel and this is the only one currently available. First VW really like it.

my new Jetta

Walked into Emich VW in Denver to pick up headlight for my 2002 Jetta TDI, and ended up walking out with a new TDI for my wife.
Black Sedan, DSG, sunroof, mats, 17" wheels, etc

Paid MSRP. Salesman had original buyer back out night before, said his wife lost job, and couldn't buy it. I was not planning on getting a new TDI, but the thought had crossed our minds, and could not let the opportunity go by. Did a quick test drive, the wife loved it, and traded in our 2006 Ford 500, and drove the 155 miles home in the new ride.

Has 350 miles on it now.. really enjoyed the drive home, is averaging 38 MPG so far...

This is My fathers car. He is not too computer savy. Funny I quoted Gordon's dad to get all the info out there.

Great thread.

I have started looking for the TDI, and this thread has really helped me make decisions.

Here is what I have decided thus far:

TDI Wagon, with Sunroof, NAV and rear air bags
DSG
Can be Purchased for MSRP or just under

Fuel consumption data: tank 1 46.3mpg; tank 2 still in the works (48.5 on the MFD and the MFD was very close to actual on tank 1...we'll see).

Just did a short trip to get my daughter home from school so she could vote. 155 miles, A/C on about 50%, mostly 4 lane state highways at 60 - 65mph. MFD gave me 49.5 for the leg. Heavy right foot getting up to speed then velvet foot while cruising. This included getting stuck in College Station Friday afternoon traffic.

Update: 3/28/09 15k miles, no issues!

Problem: Rear Driver side brake caliper would not release after normal driving and breaking. This started at 2500 miles and was pretty aggressive at first grinding down the rotor and pads. Stealer-ship ordered a caliper adjustment kit along with new pads and rotor, telling me to drive on it until the parts came in. No problems since the repair.

Additionally I have only had two occasions to test the rear window defroster but I swear it's not working. Window moisture cleared naturally and I never saw it break up along the heating element lines. Technician said it tests just fine with resistance but this isn't over yet.

Mileage averages around 35 to 38 in combined City/Hwy but I'm always in Sport and zipping everywhere I go. I love it!!

First speeding ticket came at 4900 miles for 25 over the limit but who really drives MPH?

I finally found a problem with my 09 Sedan. I just noticed that the footwell light on the drivers side was not working. Simple fix I thought. I pull the lense cover off which is the bulb itself. It has 2 pins for a plug and it was not plugged in. Feel around with my finger to find the loose plug with no luck.

I take the plastic under dash cover off with the 2 torx screws and look at the maze of wires underneath. I do not see any plugs that need a socket to plug into. I start looking closer and I see a double strand of wire tucked behind the kick panel. I pull it out and there is no plug just two severed wires. A quick test shows these are the correct wires since the light glows on and off.
So now I get to make 2 trips to the dealer that is 40 miles away to get them to solder a plug onto the wire that was severed during assembly.

I didn't know I had footwell lights until I went out and turned them on through the MFD.

Question about the footwell lighting - are the lights supposed to stay on when the driving lights are on at night, or do they only engage when the door is open? Mine turn off after the door closes.

Edited to update:

Body -Sedan
Transmission -DSG
Delivery -10/17/08
Price relative to MSRP -MSRP
Current miles -2100
Problems -Car delivered with rear wheel low pressure and car either came with or developed an out of alignment problem (pull to the right). Dealer performed an alignment a few days ago. It seems much better, but I'm keeping an eye on it.
Mileage -5 tanks (Exxon, Shell, Gulf, Gulf, Gulf), approximately 50/50 city/highway driving averaging 38 mpg.
