2006 vw tdi jetta rear dome light not working

I have a 2006 tdi jetta and the rear dome light won't turn on manually or with doors open. And the passenger makeup mirror only works if the dome light switch is turned off. Driver side makeup mirror never works. What could be the problem?

I only really care about the rear dome light. I just pulled it off to make sure it is plugged in.

My family owns 3 2006 jettas and all three of them the rear dome light does not work. This has to be a common problem with a common fix. Anybody out there with any helpful information?

We own 3 jettas and don't have this problem at all.

Was your headliner ever replaced? The wiring up there is that brittle thin ribbon wire that is very easily butchered when the headliner is replaced.
I do know the vanity lights work off a switch that often wears out from flipping the visor down and up. That could be the issue with your driver's vanity.
I'm assuming you've tried another festoon bulb back there. Have you checked for 12v across the prongs?
Also, IIRC, when I was hobbling together my driver's vanity to get it working, I realized the switch opens/closes the circuit on the ground side.
