For MKV owners, this may be worth checking during your next tire rotation or summer/winter swap. Fortunately enough for myself, this failure occurred while at a red light with very little traffic around.
The left photo shows the weak point of the hose that burst (right above the crimp fitting). The right photo shows the new part with reinforcement over the area so I'm lead to believe that VW knows about this issue. Both sides of the car were frayed. I checked another car with similar mileage (130k miles) and it had the same issue.
