Hello, I am a mechanic of necessity not trade or hobby but I have rebuilt this car after a wreck so I know my way around a bit. My Jetta recently began hissing and after some research concluded it's the EGR. Instead of buying new EGR I was just going to delete it as it is not required in my state. However, I understand this will throw a code, do I actually need to get a tune to remove this code (I have 0 experience with tuning and it is outside my comfort zone)? If I don't get a tune will I jsut have a check engine light but the vehicle will still run properly? What delete kits would you recommend?

Thanks

Yes, there will be a code and the check engine light will be on. AFAIK the only way to keep the light out at that point is with a tune. The warm up in the winter is terrible without the cooler.

Thanks for the reply. Is there anything wrong with running it with the light on for now? I also live in Florida and phoneix so winter will not be an issue.

The biggest issue with a permanent CEL is that you will never know when another CEL happens (and, presumably, not know to take action before potentially expensive damage occurs).

I am deleting my egr cooler on my 06 jetta, does any one know if the 90 degree elbow in the delete kit needs clamps to connect to the hoses to bypass the egr cooler or do the existing clamps are used? My kit had no instructions and now videos I could find show this and my kit has no clamps for the elbow.
