Scored me a mistreated 2006 with dsg. $250. I've only played with the CR on the 09s and 15s.

Obviously it's not the bulletproof earlier models, but this one isn't heavily choked with emission equipment.

Its lost a turbo seal, pumps more oil out the muffler than anything I've ever seen. I don't even think the turbo is turning anymore to be honest. And the engine has a very unpleasant knock, not necessarily a nasty sloppy hammer, but a knock. Too heavy to be a lifter, not heavy enough to rule out a spoiled crank shaft...yet....I'm sure no one knew it or understood what was all happening and ran the oilpan near empty.

I believe its the BRM?

Next few months I hope to find time and pull everything out. Given the situation should I just plan to pull the transmission with the engine? Or is there room enough to separate the block and leave the gearbox?

Honestly I haven't even hooked up rosstech yet. Maybe the carriage is in front the horse regarding dsg codes. Eeeekk.

Are crank shafts readily available if I can't clean this one up? Alternative options? Factory turbo? Go a bit larger? Injector pump? Nozzles? Injectors? I've read nozzels can limit the injectors capacity? Maybe I misunderstood the statement.

I know there's some BRM gurus lurking here.

Probably looking at a junkyard block at this point.
I think it’s easier to pull both out at the same time when pulling the engine.
The upgraded turbo from Europe seems to be a popular upgrade.
Factory injectors are good to 150hp. Bigger than that things can get expensive fast.

Its not the cleanest car, in or out. Nasty door dent too. Minimal rust for its age and where its been.

Im not too keen of putting too much money into it. Its got 180k miles. If I can save the crank and source a stock turbo, make decent fuel consumption, I'll be happy. Only other concern is the camshaft wear. I hear and read that's more common than it should be.

I live in SE-MI, I have a BRM, and I can give you some information., and lend you some tools. I also have VCDS. Send me a message and we'll take it from there.

I bought a real noisy one once, turned out to be a loose flywheel after someone did a rigid flywheel conversion. I'd pull the pan and go from there.
