I need a new/used transmission for my BRM as our differential got loose and broke a chunk of metal out of the casting inside the bell housing. I am looking to buy a complete transmission that be ran as is.

What are the compatible manual Transmissions? I know gas ones will have different gearing so that is not an option. I think a Mk4 will mate up. How about a 6-spd?

After further research a 6-speed is not worth the additional effort

Mk4 will mate up, but the cable bracket is different and you'll have to change shift tower.

My gear box did the same self destructive behaviour (and VW thought bigger rivets would fix the issue). This is actually a very simple fix if you have the mechanical skills. Any VW manual (Gas or Diesel) from the MK 4 or MK5 will work. Keep the gear set from your machine and the rest of the stuff is interchangable. The housings look completely different but will fit. When those ring gears go, the have a bad habit of busting the portion of the casting facing the clutch.

I took three different gear boxes to complete one, any O2J instructions will work. I got to the stage I could build an entire transmission in under two hours. It is not hard, just lots and lots of parts.

I forgot to mention the ring gear on the MK5 is larger and the ring gear bolts are different size so the MK 4 ring gear bolt kits will not work, but everything else is interchangeable (assuming you keep the gear sets intact).

When you say O2J instructions, are you referring to what's in the Bentley books, or something else that is more specific?

I see Zelek sells an O2J "Technical Manual". I was curious is that something other than what's in the Bentley manuals?
