The speedometer on my 2006.5 Jetta has always been "slow" on the MPH side registering lower than the actual speed (according to 2 different GPS units). The KPH seems for some reason to be closer to accurate but that could just be that the inner ring on the KPH scale is harder for me to read. Is this a "thing" as in a known design "feature"? Is there a simple way to correct it? The amount of slow is around 2 MPH on the lower end of the scale and about 4 MPH on the higher end of the scale.

I can't tell you the source, but I did read something that basically stipulated that the speedo must overstate the actual speed. Don't remember where I read that and if it was a EU thing. Mine shows exactly what you are stating as well.

Usually the speedometer will read ~3 mph fast. I did the VCDS speedo recoding thing and it made mine fairly accurate. At worst, sometimes it reads 1 mph slow.

Are you using the stock-sized tires? Has there been any transmission or electronics work done?

My car is bone stock. No mods... yet. OEM rated tires and stock wheels.

My 09 with 225/45-17 tires has always read about 1 mph low at a true 60 mph. This was true with the OEM Continentals, and the present Yokohama tires I have mounted.

speedo error

On my 2006 it reads 105 kph at exactly 100kph. I read somewhere that it was the case for most of these cars with two theories why. 1; VW was ending the warranty 5% sooner. 2; safety standards of Europe..
