Nice looking car !!!

Looks like you spent the money and fixed it correctly.

The new transmission alone is nearly $4000 installed.

It is definitely worth $11,000 if you add up all the major items he recently replaced.

Transmission, Turbo etc etc.

It is also a Texas car meaning ( NO RUST) .

Here's a thought...what about just taking the trans out, selling the auto, and converting that car to a manual? Oh how I long for my manual to be rust free. :(

It is possible but I like to sell it if I can.
Or someone can buy it, do their own conversion and sell the near new tranny.
If you keep it long term, this car is likely a bargain.
What else can you buy for 11k, that would be a better value?

I love it. Very clean example. I've been toying with the idea of going from my Jetta Wagon to a Passat. But this is a bit too far for me.

I think the price is right for what has been done and condition. I'd buy it in a heartbeat but my wife doesn't want twin blue wagons. :S If it was white...

Examples like this one are becoming rare. If it were me, color and distance would be footnotes.

This is a nice Passat TDI wagon and a fair price, if you factor in all the work that was recently done.

I just wish I had more garage space .

I own two 05 Passat TDI Wagons.

Great cars ! Hard to find .
Do not expect to find this quality in any of the new TDI's.

Definitely an era that has passed.

Today, you can buy a small TDI Sportwagen, that is made in Mexico, with less than desirable build quality and a big $30,000 price tag.

This one is a bargain at $11,000.

This is a really nice car guys !

I just fixed up a 2005 Passat TDI wagon within the last few months and
I know exactly what it costs to fix one up properly.

Given all the items he has replaced; the $11,000 price is very fair.

I have been trying to figure out a way to buy this one as I really like the blue graphite color and since it is a Texas car it is Rust Free.

Sorry, no white color Passat in my garage.

We have a Shadow blue with 84,000 orig. miles and a Stonehenge Grey with 158k.

We bought the 2005 ( Stonehenge Grey) Passat TDI Wagon ( Florida car ) in October.
Stonehenge grey with grey leatherette interior. Never wrecked and never smoked in. Nice car !

A highly reputable TDI guru greatly assisted me in locating this car.
I am very appreciative of him for locating this car for me.
He also did all the work putting it back into "top shape" .

We too spent some big money on this recent acquisition --
New Michelin 17" tires, new Zimmerman rotors, new pads, new windshield, new timing belt and new water pump ( by previous owner ), new alternator, Two new 17" Bi-Star wheels, new bigger Interstate battery. Gear driven balancer shaft (previously done). Fresh RC1 ECU reflash, New VW / ZF reman auto transmission and new torque converter, New Dieselgeek skid plate, All new relays 219, 384, 373 and the previous owner had just replaced all the shocks and struts.

I have $12,800 "hard money" in this car and it is NOT currently for sale.
The 05 Passat TDI Wagons, rust free and from nice weather states ( FL, TX, NV, AZ, GA) are way too hard to find in this condition !
If you want a nice one; you have to spend some cash to buy a nice one and then spend more $$ to fix it up nicely.
No regrets, although I too should have converted this one over to a manual transmission and had the balancer shaft deleted.

So I guess I am trying to say ---- Jetta, 97 is offering for sale, a pretty nice 2005 Passat TDI Wagon, at a great price and all the major work has already been done.

I can completely understand him being somewhat offended by low ball offers.
Thank you so much.

Why don't you buy this Passat Wagon out of Texas ?

Sell your current Passat and have a nice "Rust Free" clean body Wagon out of Texas. Just a thought.

I wonder how easy it would be to get it registered in California.

Marin, thanks for a great buying experience!

I recommend Marin to anyone on this forum or beyond. He was really great to communicate with and his workmanship and attention to detail is outstanding. We Facetimed about two weeks ago (I'm in NY), then I sent a deposit, arranged a flight to Dallas this weekend, did a final walk-through and test drive at his shop, then we exchanged paperwork and a bank check. Easy as pie.

I drove the car 1700 miles home and calculated 36 mpg at average speeds 75-80 mph. It drives smoothly and beautifully and my wife is very happy with the extra room (compared with our Jetta wagon). I'm happy with the peace of mind knowing that everything was done right and I look forward to a long, trouble-free ownership experience.

My family and friends think I'm crazy (including my wife at first) flying to TX to buy a car with 160K miles, but I know I made a great decision.
