no i think he was referring to don's comment about pricing because don's from arizona.. :) as in don's comment makes sense because don is used to az cars which are well known for having near zero rust.
cheers.... clearly I am crappy at forums

lol nah. it's easy to get lost in the back and forth of these things.

btw, is there any chance you have photos of the underneath? or could you at least describe the amount of rust underneath.

When I took it to my buddy mechanic and he had it up on the lift to swap all the winter tires off for summer he said it looked pretty good. I remember staring at it but honestly I don’t remember anything that caught my eye. I don’t have any photos.

Me thinks I won’t. Thanks for your input. A full set of summer tires mounted on rims is worth a reasonable amount of coin on their own. The car is in great shape and will serve its next owner well.
Hmm. Gee, the car has four tires. Strong selling point. Most of the cars I’ve seen only have one or two.

I have no idea what an AZ car is
I bought mine in Vancouver, WA in March 2005. I moved to Arizona in 2011. There is more likely to be salt in western Washington, but the rain washes it off. I erred in not noticing the OP car was in salt country.

I guess the BEW is a better engine, I am not qualified to say. I still have the original cam, so there is that. I have changed my oil every 5,000 miles and never used the garbage Castrol 505.01 oil VW recommended. Also, on the recommendation of Marcel I usually put some LiquiMoly MOS2 in with each oil change.

Sorry AverageAndy, not for sale.

so is the only rusty spot on it that part under the license plate?

I bought an 05 Golf TDI with 162K in decent-ish shape back in 2015 for $5500USD. Considering inflation has been bonkers lately, I would say that is a fair price. Also, aren’t the wagons for this model year getting really hard to find?

They are out there….. but I think mine is priced appropriately.
Especially considering a full set of mounted summer tires included
