My gf's 05 jetta has a water leak. Whenever it rains all the carpet ( passenger, driver, front and back ) become very wet. The car will also idle really rough but will stop after driving it for a couple minutes. I'm not sure where the water is coming in at but the floors are soaked and water is getting somewhere to cause the engine to run rough. I know the clogged sunroof drains are a common problem on these cars but those all seem to be fine. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Jetta leaks

I had an issue where the sunroof drain would overflow and leak down the A Piller on the driver side. It would drip all over the fuse box. I would suggest opening the sunroof, remove driver side end cap and pour water slowly down the drain and look for a leak. I ran weed wacker line thru mine which helped unclog them.

I tried that and they weren't clogged at all. Still have the same problem. Im not familiar with these cars so I have no clue where to go from here

The problem most likely is the drain line which runs from the sunroof to your wheel well. This is a known issue and you can search this forum.

Basically you need to get into your headliner and locate where the sunroof drains attach to the sunroof. It will be a white grommet attached to a tannish hose. What happens is the bond between the grommet and hose breaks down and allows water to drip into the headliner/pillar area. Which uses gravity to run down and eventually soak the carpet.

What I did was to use clear silicon and basically re-glued the hose to the grommet. I had to do all four (4) connections.

(VW lost a class action lawsuit for this exact issue)
