2005 BEW that broke it's timing belt due to a lifter exploding. The head is pretty busted up and would be replaced, the piston protrusion checks out. I am concerned with the slaps on the pistons. Should I work with it at 175k? Junk yard motor? Looking to get another 150k out of the motor.

Check your piston protrusion on all cylinders. If they're all within spec, you will likely be fine to re assemble with the lower end as is. I don't see any cracks in the pistons.

The rods on the BEW are fairly robust. If they are within spec I'd get a new or rebuilt head and motor on.

Ended up hitting LQK for a 122k engine...gonna swap it out, due to the thrashed head. Anyone need a bottom end with slightly borked pistons?
