The Sheraton Braintree has been selected as the headquarters for the 2004 TDI ’fest. We have blocked an initial group of 65 rooms at a rate of $US89 before taxes. With tax the rate will be close to US$100. The ‘fest organizers realize that this price is above the rates of rooms at previous TDI ‘fests, and have therefore been conservative in the number of rooms in the initial block. We feel that the easy highway access to this hotel, its proximity to Boston, Plymouth and coastline and its amenities are well worth this rate we have locked in for the first 65 rooms. This rate is for up to quad occupancy, so bring the spouse, the significant other, and the kids. You can do ‘fest related activities, they can sightsee, explore history, shop, whatever. Additional rooms can be added to the 65 already blocked on a space available basis, but depending on the timing of additional rooms being reserved, the rate may have increased. This hotel has sold out completely, as have other lesser quality hotels in the immediate area, the Labor Day weekend of past two years. The same rooms which we have negotiated at $89 were rented out at $US179 last Labor Day weekend.

We urge you to reserve at the Sheraton and, if convenient, to split the room rate with other attendees. Learn more about this location and it’s amenities at Sheraton.com. Use Braintree, Massachusetts as the property location.

Please consider the offer and contact the Sheraton Braintree directly at (781) 848-0600. Ask for “group reservations” and be sure to mention “TDI ‘fest” to get the negotiated rate. The Sheraton corporate reservations office won’t have information on the ‘fest and will not honor the negotiated rate.

We will rapidly be following with details on other ‘fest related items.

On that note, Anyone want to split a room. Maybe even 3 ways? I will be bringing he wife & kids halfway and dropping them off at the inlaws in Quebec for the weekend. So if anyone else from the GTA is going solo, let me know so we can split the cost of a room. My plans are for only Fri & Sat night and head back after the banquet Sunday, but who knows, I might be talked into staying if there is something cool planned for afterwards.

Like last year I will be doing the camping thing. Can someone reccommend the closest and best campsites near the event? Anyone else in for camping?

While the rates are a bit high compared to the rest of the country, these rates for Boston are quite cheap and in a good location. Would make for a good starting point whether you plan to go further into downtown Boston using the Red Line subway, or heading south to Plymouth or Cape Cod.

Nigel - I'd be interested in splitting the room. I'd like to drive my car down too so we could meet down there. I'll get in touch with you to discuss.

Even though I only live about an hour away I'd be intrested in splitting a room, as this would greatly increase the amount of fest time and hence increase the amount of craic(not crack)!

Does anyone know if parking is included in the room fee? Namely, is there free parking available at the Sheraton for guests?

If its not free, what is the daily cost? In/Out privledges?

If its not available at all, what are the options?

yes, parking is free to guests. this site is just outside of boston, not directly in it, so parking isn't the same problem that it would be under those circumstances.

In addition, while we have been "slacking off" as some might wish it to appear, we negotiated an exclusive TDI'fest section of the lot, at no charge to attendees. That space will be further enlarged, and with tables for vendors, for the Show and Shine planned for Sunday.
And on a weekend when the hotel is typically sold out.

we're going to get some pics of the hotel up soon, so people can get an idea of the location. in the meantime, here's a sales picture i was able to get from the web:

i'm not sure if we're going to get the complimentary apples or not... i'm pretty sure we forgot to bring those up during the negotiation process.

Comfy... lots of chairs...

lots of space to sit around and drink the night away...

I think i did pretty well last year - I got to sleep before 3 or 4 am every night!

Which kinda makes me wonder if we need a hotel room at all? Is anyone planning on sleeping? /images/graemlins/laugh.gif /images/graemlins/wink.gif

One word of advice to those in the area! Staying at the Fest Location/headquaters is WELL worth it for the experience. Although it can be done driving home everynight - you'll probably miss a great deal of "fellowship" and laughter by going home....

when you consider the extremely low prices that we're getting the rooms for (both compared to the hotel's normal rate and hotels in the area) and the overall quality of the hotel, we think that staying at the official hotel is a no-brainer. i agree with geoff, the camraderie is not to be missed, and not having to worry about driving home after drinking with your tdi buddies is certainly worthwhile.

the Braintree Tara is located in a strategic area. For those wanting to go to Cape Cod or into Boston, it could not be easier. There is also lots of shopping across the street.

With the cost of hotels in the area, you're not going to do better than the Tara at $89.

There is no Sheraton Tara in Braintree, hasn't been for decades. The operators of the Sheraton Braintree are quick to mention that fact and "Please, don't refer to it as such again."

Give us another ten dollars off
No
Tara, Tara, Tara
OK, I give
Now, about exclusive parking
No
Tara, Tara...
All right already!
