In excellent condition that's an $8K TDI, a bit less for the small damage noted.

Maybe not a unicorn. I think I have one of those sitting in my garage. (Slightly) lower mileage, too.

Is the red one with the dead engine still around?

Yes, but sold. Mike (works at IDParts) is putting it back together (engine's already in) and is going to sell his B4V.

I agree... more importantly that is what the market says.

You both should email him/her and let them know that "this is what the market says" for a 10 model year old car with almost 300k miles .

Sounds like a good way to waste both your time and that of the seller's. The askin price seems about right for the age and miles and the mark down for a wagon.

mark this thread under lol .... unicorn .... sure....whatever ......triple b strikes again......

If the seller wants to sell for $2,000 less than they could get, that's up to them. Means a prospective buyer gets a good deal.

You are quite out of touch with MK IV pricing. (there is mark UP for being a wagen)

would you pay 8k for that car?
i can't say that i would
I didn't say I would either. Check the threads here and elsewhere for what they have been going for with similar mileage and beyond $10K with less than 200K miles.

If in excellent condition, yes. With the minor dings, $6K or $7K. (the caveat I noted)

A lot of people are used to seeing prices for gasser VWs and are unaware of the retained value of TDIs.

people do regularly sell their TDIs for gasser prices, i have seen that. The problem i see with the 8k proposed value of this car is i better not have to do any maintenance besides fluids for 2 years or i will be upset.

i've seen all the threads and i think they are over valued. I think there is a bit of a bubble on TDIs in general. I appreciate their functionality and longevity. I may find myself in one eventually.

If it lived its life in the west, it's EXTREMELY rare to have any rust out here.
true nuff.

Until you break the dipstick tube because it isn't supported by the cover. And Montana does now use some road salt, so rust is possible unlike in the past.

Local to me 03 TDI Jetta Wagon 5 Speed 85k original miles sold in 36 hours about 8 weeks ago for $12k...

In my opinion, this one is a steal for $5k, even with high miles. I passed the ad on to a few people who I know are looking for TDI's.

The seller is offering the vehicle (per the crazed list ad) for $5(k) or $3(k) less then this mythical valuation. I think (per my post) that he is probably spot on for $5(k) for a 10 year old vehicle with 280(k) on the clock. From what I read (and the best I can tell from the pictures --- and I acknowledge I could be wrong here) and before just sending out teh checks, maybe one would wish to take a looksee at this car (I know crazed list vehicles are above reproach and all :)).

I would imagine that beyond the non-stock wheels (deduction); the glazed headlights (showing lack of detail/upkeep IMO); the lack of esp (deduction); the chinese tires (deduction) and commentary from the seller that it shifts like a car with 280(k) on the clock would  that maybe the seller disagrees with the enthusiasm of some posting here. Has this car been maintained? What has been changed out? Does this matter to those posting? It should, IMO.

As far as my desire not to relive the 1970s with a mk4 station wagon (get some stick on wood paneling to complete that look), some of us prefer not to roll that way Bob. In fairness, the new JSW style is ok.

High mileage car with no maintenance history mentioned for sale on crazed list. What could possibly go wrong here  .............

Ya... and why does the exterior look so nice, and there is a hole in the seat?
And why is there a dent? And why so many miles? And why does it have aftermarket wheels?

Good catch and question !

Maybe I'm missing the obvious here, but, it's a USED car!!! It won't be showroom perfect.

Those headlights look pretty good - remember, they're 10 years old

Lack of ESP - so what? If you want it, I think it's like $100 to put it in yourself from a junkyard. I personally don't want ESP.

A lot of people have aftermarket wheels because they like them - Some buyers it will be a benefit, others won't like them. It's nothing I'd be concerned with though.

How do you know what tires are on it, not to mention where they are made? Don't like them, don't buy it, or change them if you do.

There's a dent because he ran into something or someone backed into him - probably not too hard or any underlying damage looking at all the surrounding area of the bumper.

Why so many miles? Becasue it's driven a lot. A trip to Walmart in Montana is probably 100+ miles round trip. What is the last TDI/5 speed that you saw that actually wore out due to high mileage?

As with any used car, buyer beware, and you should obviously look at it, talk to the seller and see if anything smells funny (literally and figuretively). Even at $5k you could put some money in it and still not overpay. Let's say worst case it needs a turbo, flywheel, nozzles and timing belt in the first year. So now you have $8000 in it, still a good deal and will run a long time after that or you can sell it for that with the new parts.

From the information in the ad and what we collectively know about these vehicles, this one looks like a good deal compared to others. Go find a better deal on a MKIV TDI Wagon.

Sheesh people - nobody is forcing you to buy it.

All Gone
My car has a few dings and scratches from the previous owner. If fact, the headlights are glazed as well. It also came with a folder full of maintenance records for every single thing done to the car. It even had the SKU tag taped to the folder. Sometimes people could car less about a few cosmetic details, and focus on the things that keep the car running for many miles. Obviously this car is still going at 280,000 miles.

So I graduated university a long time ago, but I bought some new batteries at the drug store for the TI-85. So...............I did the math...

Asking Price of Wagon: $5,000
non-stock wheels deduct: -$500
glazed headlights deduct: -$750
Lack of ESP deduct: -$600
Chinese Tires deduct: -$1000
Shifts like a car with 280k miles deduct: -$2500

So my magic TI-85 says the correct price is………….the seller owes you $350!!!!! Seems like a fair deal. Minus negotiation, of course, for the lack of records.

…..If I were you: call the seller mention these mathematical concerns and make sure he has the title and a checkbook…..

NICE!:D:D:D I want to email this offer to the seller. Thanks for making me laugh. I need it.

PS: my Ti-89 could have figured that out too, but it was eaten by acid in 2005. RIP, '89.

That one is very very nice. Figure you could get it for $7000 and you've made a nice deal.
