I hope someone can shed some light on my problem. I started having problems with 2 to 3 up shift. It will slam into 3rd gear instead of the smooth shift that normally takes place. This problem will occur hot or cold and will shift fine and then 2 or 3 shifts will slam into gear. All other upshifts or down shifts are fine. Since the car was new there was a small leak between engine and trans but not enough to be concerned about but when this shift problem started about 18 months ago I finally decided to take it in. The dealer took the trans out and changed seals, etc. At that time I mentioned about the intermittent rotten upshift problem. Well when I got the car back all seemed ok for about 2 weeks and slowly the upshift problem started again and is to the point about 10 months later is just as bad as before. Should I be demanding a new trans or possible trans computer from the dealer. They will say no to the new trans - will need to fix it!! Well warranty is up at the end of the year and I don't have time to CHECK if it's fixed. The problem started at 14,000 Km and only has 28,000 on it now. Anyone has any ideas, though about disconnecting the battery to reset the computers.

No I haven't checked the fluid but the dealer had changed out the fluid when they had the trans apart. There is more to this than just fluid. How about changing the trans and the trans computer. Ha that will be fun getting the dealer to do that.

If they removed it to change the seals they did not really take the transmission apart, they would not have looked into what is causing this issue. Sounds like its time for a second opinion, have it scanned by somebody with VAG-COM before taking it in, these cars seem to log just about everything.

They changed more than just seals, just not sure what all was changed. The strange part is it worked fine for a few weeks after the repair and then slowly it started again. The problem only happens about 30% of the time but I do drive it alot in town so it gets to shift the gears lots. When they had it they said there was no error codes and of course it worked fine but that small drip was checked into. They must have got it because no leaking now. Feel like trading it off, will get max dollars because of the km's as I am not trusting it at this point. Will take it in but was just seeing what anyone in the TDI Club thought about it. From what response so far I must have the only one that has done this?

I took my golf in for a MIL, showed coolant temperature sensor malfunction. I asked the dealership to check for any other codes (had some transmission issues) and they said there were none, yet when I snagged the sheet (when they weren't looking) it was showing tiptronic and transmission temp sensor codes. Don't always trust the dealership ;)

I wouldn't stop trusting a car over a rough gear change, any car can have problems, and trading yours in towards something else will not guarantee you a trouble-free car.

There are just too many to list....
Queen plays again!

"Oh! Let's go!
Steve walks warily down the street
With his brim pulled way down low
Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet
Machine guns ready to go

Are you ready hey are you ready for this?
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat yeah

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone and another one gone
Another one bites the dust hey
Hey I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust..."

In commenting on Canadian Grizzly about the trans going early is no lie. As I had said in my first post I don't have any miles on the car. Of course the car has been running good the last couple of weeks, waiting for it to go through one of it's spells and then I will take it in. Just luckly I know the mechanic that will look into the problem and he said that he will consider replacing it. My question is how long can the next one last? I was considering getting extended warranty but for me it will likley be a waste of money as I only put 5,000 km on it in the last year. I need a extended warranty with lots of time verus km.
Also this problem doesn't seem to common as no one has jumped in saying I have the same problem. Can a beefed up trans be installed?
Might not find out the final solution for a few weeks.
