2002 Order Date?

I have been on a long search for the elusive Golf GL TDI. Believe it or not, I have been waiting nearly one year to find one. However, luck has not been on my side.

I am finally breaking down, and I am willing to place one on order. Obviously, we are talking about a 2002 model now. However, can I order one this early in the year? My dealer all but refuses to talk to me about this. They are pushing a 1.8T on me. It's a nice car, but several thousand more expensive, and lacking some of the character of the TDI.

Getting to the point, does anyone know of a date that 2002 ordering can begin? I am assuming it might be too early since product details are still somewhat sketchy. Anyway, thanks in advance.

You can and should "order" a 2002 TDI right now if you want to get one anytime in the near future. I also went through the 1.8t v. TDI dilemma and ending up going with the TDI. My dealer found the one that I wanted that was scheduled to be built by the factory. He called last week and told me that the car had not yet been built and the factory was currently changing over for production of 2002's....So, I guess I will get a 2002...No biggie, I think the price is staying the same and in-dash CD players are replacing the cassette as standard equipment....If your dealer is not helpful I would find another one to work with....Good luck!!

I drove an automatic red 2001 Golf Gl TDI w/grey interior 2 weeks ago from Advantage Volkswagen in Houston, Texas...didn't see where you're from before I started to reply, so ignore this if it's not helpful.
