Looking back, I realized the day before my vent air was running warmer than usual but that was my only clue although when I got to work I noticed some oil had forced its way out past the cap on the valve cover. Then next day as I started up to leave it went very quickly to flame on mode no matter what I tried with the temp dial, then I opened the hood after about a minute or so and the hoses were were warm already and kind of distended and it was very odd. I eventually made it home driving slowly with the hood opened to the default detent and heater blowing mad hot air, caught a break and it was raining and cool so I made it home Torque telling me the temp was 195 or more but not touching the red part, when I got home more oil had been forced out of the cap area.
I didn't think of a head gasket leak until today searching and then when I checked the original t-stat it opened upon testing on the stove so now I need to take off the new tstat and try to feel up in there, is it right past the t-stat opening? Because the hole is surrounded by the housing and I am unsure I can get my hand in there, going back out to try.
Update: I got my fingers up there and felt around but all I could really feel/see was the jacket going toward the back of the motor, it didn't feel like it had impellers on it and wouldn't move, so I dunno what I am supposed to feel.
