Still lovin' mine after passing through 203,000 this weekend. Bought new in '03.
TB kit just came in on Thursday.
Everything remains stock (except for scheduled maintenance items). I've been using synthetic oil every 10K. I've had offers to buy it, but I can't think of what I'd replace it with...
Running total average fuel economy is 47.3

231,000 and counting!!!

Question though - Should be expecting a "major" tune-up anytime soon? I bought my '98 NB TDI with 162,000 on it a few years ago. Luckily most of my miles have been highway... I just received a letter from VW dealer to bring it in for 230,000 tune up. What else is involved in that?

Thanks for any info.

200,000 + miles

Hi All, I purchased my 2004 Golf TDI new and commute around 100+ miles a day. As of now I have 212,000 miles with very few problems. EGR cooler tube backed off and blew gasket lossing turbo power @ 200,000 miles. On my 3rd timing belt with Amsoil being primary oil with exception of Motul for first 40,000 miles.Recall glow plugs at the dealer with reflash(2nd recall)at 160,000. New struts and shocks at 180,000 miles. No upgrades or enhancements although I have often thought about chipping. I love my Golf and my wife also owns a 2002 Golf TDI, also for commuting the opposite way@ 90 miles daily. She has about 190,000 miles now and we are presently in the mode of front wheel bearings, suspension upgrade(TT control arm bushings), ball joints and new Bilstein TC,s all around. Overall we love our cars and will continue to drive VW's too death.

201K miles on my 2001 Jetta GLS.

New timing belt, rear brake pads and rotors installed last week.

I've owned this car for 5 years now--purchased with 135K miles. Since I've owened it, I've replaced tires, battery, alternator, EGR, a few fuel filters and now the timing belt and rear brakes... I'm installing replacement e-brake cables and a glow plug harness next week. After that, it should be good for another 200K miles! ;)

2003 Silver TDI Jetta Wagon GLS, 5-spd. --- Prior car was: Black 2000 TDI Jetta GL (Sold it with 364,000 miles and still running strong)
I sold my 2000 TDi Jetta on 12/29/11 with 362,000 on it, and it was still running great! I had the car for over 8 years and used it as a commuter car between the Blue Ridge Parkway in VA to Greensboro, NC, and it was the most trustworthy car I've ever imagined! I've put 303,000 on it myself and I've hit 10 deer with it, and it has never once left me stranded anywhere. These are truly great cars. I only sold it because I found a 2003 VW Jetta Wagon TDi that I really wanted for sale, so that is my "new" car with only 125,000 on it. Looking forward to another 8+ years of great service!

221K on my 2001 Golf. Put on the third timing belt last year and finally replaced the original brake pads at 200k. New struts at 186k and normal items other than that. I'm looking to upgrade to a 2012 Sportwagen TDI soonish.

Got two Jettas with over 200,000. The 98 is my favorite. Just replaced struts and springs, water pump, TB, ignition switch, front brakes, resealed the IP. Hoping to go over 300,000. The other one has an 86 engine in an 89 body. It's at around 205,000 and is pretty much just used for running around town.
My father-in-law is a VW mechanic and says never to buy any VW with less than 200,000 miles

Maybe in the next few years I'll hit the 200k mark. I bought my 2005 Mk4 Jetta in December of 2009 and I'm about to hit 100k this time home. I fly overseas for work, so my sits more at home...though I'm about to transfer and be driving from Houston to Williston every month...so it will start seeing more miles.

No deer yet....been close multiple times. All the deer I hit are with everyone elses cars...lol. I had my exs van (hated that thing) going to Ohio to move stuff we had in storage up there and I ran over a deer that came out from under a semi. Then hit 2 babies with the company truck in Montana and the most recent one was running over a deer with a rental car when it again came out from under a semi. I have nearly hit them with my car...but not yet (knocking on wood....lol)

293,000 on my 2000 Golf and 248,000 on my 2001 Jetta. Sadly, 2002 Golf never made it to 200k, as it was disassembled 2 weeks ago at 156k. However, the motor will live on in my TT.

Just rolled 200,000 miles on my 2006 VW Jetta TDI!!! Original brake pads, rotors and WATER PUMP was just changed 800 miles ago. The still original DSG's dmf has been rattleling for over 3 years, rather loudly as of late.
