I'm way up here where there's no air. That's probably why.

p.s. If you don't want that Viper, I'll buy it!

Runs great.

More smoke. Don't know why.

That's about it.

I have experienced 5 different MAFs on my car now, and this one gave a new level of power - brute force - when first installed, way more than any new TDI MAF. Then I installed the stock airbox and smoke went down a bit, power went back to normal. I don't think the Viper had THAT much to do with the MAF output/power. But odd how it had so much power and then dropped off. My car is possessed.

Runs great.

No smoke. I'm totally stock so that may be why.(?)

Lots of pull through all gears.

I am not sure how the TDI injection and computer system work together, but on GM 6.5TD if you are putting in more air the computer will try to give it more fuel.
I am thinking the smoke is do to more air being allowed in the engine by a better flowing air filter. The MAF is telling the computer its seeing more air and in turn the computer is giving it more fuel. This is the only reason IMHO that would decrease smoke when istalling the stock air box and filter because the MAF is seeing less air. Just a thought.

My car is completely stock (for now) including OEM air filter. The only difference is I completely removed the "snorkel".

After 4 days and 500 miles this is my report:

At first I had no smoke and no CE lights. Now I do have some smoke and I now have a constant CE light. But she runs perfect. So I'm not gonna worry about a little smoke or the CE light. Although, I will start carrying my original TDI MAF (whick was failing, but didn't smoke and didn't give a CE light) just in case I get stranded.

more power= $46. Fun to drive=$46. restored fuel mileage= $46. Knowing that I screwed the dealer out of an extra $300 by getting the 2.0 MAF= priceless

ProjectZwoTDI , can you find out what the CEL is? Would be curous to know. I have replaced the MAF with the gas one and NO CEL and NO smoke. You need someone with a Vag-Com tool in your area to check it.

What's all this talk about removing the snorkel? I cleared the snow screen and drove w/o the snorkel for a few minutes...very loud so I put it back on. Great fuel economy and quiet.

Why drive w/o Mr. Snorkel? It just ain't meant to be unless you have a CAI. Just my $.02.

.02 cents back, the snorkel just seems restrictive. thats why many folks ditch it.

2.0 MAF for 3 weeks. Increased power & maybe a little more smoke. Constant CEL with chip, TB, EP device & P/C Cone. Installed a P/C Viper 2 days ago & CEL went out after driving about 45 minutes of driving & has not come back on~~~the intermittant lag/WFC are gone.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hi dparnell

Did you notice any reduction of smoke after you installed your Viper in???

I'm running a 2.0 MAF with chip + big injectors... I'm smoking bad (smoking civics also...
)

I'm looking into the viper to help a bit, I'm currently running a Piperx panel.

SilverThunder, it's really hard to tell because it's been so GD windy here. I noticed a little today as I came up an 18% grade @ WOT~~~overall, I think it's the same. I am running CA low sulpher 47-50 cetane diesel with Amsoil cetane boost and about 20-25 oz. of Kreen with each tankful. I noticed one of my diesel gensets smoking when just using STP diesel additive and when I used the cetane boost+Kreen, some was GREATLY reduced~~~so I think fuel quality/additive packages affect smoking.

I'm also trying additive to lower the smoke.

I will be filling up at Irving when I see when (going to Quebec) their diesel is rated at 47. Won't hurt!

This time I tried Petro can... and a lot of Power Service lubricant/cetane booster. I think it's helping a bit.

I'm tempted to try a dumd thing... stick a big (120mm) fan in front of the air box to create a possitive presure on the dirty side of the filter.

SilverThunder, just replace air snorkel with 3" one. That's what I did. I have also stock
air box and PiperX panel (as well UPsolute and '205's). My TDI MAF is almost new, but I installed 2.0 this morning to give it a try. It's a mod definitely and I don't' have any additional smoke. Good fuel and additives will help BIG time to reduce smoke in my experience. I'll try 2.0 MAF for a while, its good power boost so far. Will see if ECU is "complaining" and bringing it back.

I removed the snorkel for less air restriction. And there's a nice GROWL at 1900-2000 RPM's.

Since my initial post I learned that I'm chipped after all. I actually bought a chipped TDI from a VW dealership WITH A WARRANTY and didn't even know it!

As of today I'm still smoking badly. And still get the occational CE light. Some have speculated it has to do with the EGR. And my fuel mileage has gone from a high of 47mpg to a low of 36mpg!

Today I soaked my original, failing TDI MAF in some rubbing alcohol in hopes of cleaning it. I'll install it tomorrow and hope for the best. I'll probobly be ordering a new TDI MAF anyway and keep the 2.0 MAF as an emergency back-up.
