Looking for custom tune. APR,REVO ,Untronic, Malone and rocket chip are the $500 range. All promising 35+ hp and 50+ torque. Who's used any of these tunes for 09+ TDI and what were your results?

The APR tune for our cars has been a bit problematic. They are pretty new to the diesel tuning game and their tune may not yet be "ready for prime time". Unitronic and Revo both offer pretty good ECU tunes, but they do not offer DSG tunes and they cannot do any sort of "custom" tune. If you want anything other than a standard stage 1 tune, you have to talk to either RocketChip (Jeff) or Malone (Mark) or one of their dealers. It's really that simple.

Have Fun!

Why don't look into a way to get more power with out rolling coal. Head porting injectors and so on. If you have deep pockets look for a V10 Touareg or a BMW 535d.
Old post but I was wondering...

They don't sell the 535d here in the USA do they? I've looked but only see the 335d advertised... I wanted to buy one, but the ones at affordable prices all seemed to be wrecked, salvaged, etc when I checked the Carfax data (not that it shows everything). So I figured I would stick with a "new" to me CR, and save $6k over the 335d cars I found that were nicer and not "junk" or "troublesome" lemons etc...

Yes they do sell 535d here. A member here has one. The car has everything under the sun. This the first year for them.

Cool! Thanks, that is great news. Maybe a BMW D can be my next choice.

The downside is a brand new BMW is not exactly my idea of affordable right now... a 4-5 year old 335d looks attractive price wise. Is the 535d available in a manual? Thanks again for the heads up.

I have a 2009 TDI thats about to pop 300,000 milesand it's all as it was new save for a new flapper valve. Its still cranking out 45-47 mpg, has all the power I ever wanted, gets me everywhere I needed and I still love driving the thing.

Can't imagine wasting thousands to fk it up with methanol and other crap just to go a little bit faster.

When I want to go fast in a diesel I get out my Toureg.:D
Yea, but.....

Not everybody has the coin for a "driver" and a "fun" car at the same time myself included. I did a while back (the Z06 and the beater 02 TDI), but life happens and priorities change. Selling a house and buying a more expensive one tends to do that (or for folks with kids, or X, etc...), and in my case I do plan on having another go fast car eventually, but in the interim I plan on having fun with my next TDI (upcoming CR purchase).

Sorry no manual:(. The 535d may be cheaper to buy but not fix:).

I have personally replaced my exhaust with an AFE model. This resulted in lots of weight deducted and it looks alot better with dual tips that actually fill the bumpers cut out. As far as performance goes it helped very little, most noticeable change was low rpm in high gear (5th @~1100 rpm) the car didn't bog out or do that weird surging that the dsg's tend to have trouble with. Funny thing is before I installed the new exhaust I started the car with no exhaust (from the flap back) absolutely NO increase in sound, not exactly what I expected, but I have learned why since then.

As for my CAI, I installed a APR carbonio and the results were Immediately noticed (firstly sound), also shed some unnecessary weight taking out that stock mess of tubes. Increased turbo response with the ram air style, slightly harder pull but at times seems like the engine gets too much air (a bit of hesitation under heavy load)

A Malone stage 2 tune and rawtek downpipe should solve my problems in both mods..

Fire,
Malone Stage 2 is about the max unless you want to go the big turbo kit route. Post stage 2, you're looking at exponential $/hp $/tq. There is a CR170 (European turbo that's used on the Euro 170 hp engines) that you can buy. AARod has these for sale on his website (http://www.fixmyvw.com). It bolts right up to your current setup with about 2 additional parts (given you've done a DPF delete). This will put you at a stage 3 with prolly close to 190 hp and 350 tq. I'm guessing here. There are several members here that have bumped up to stage 3 with great success. Search for "stage 3". If you really want to up the ante, look into darkside development's big turbo kits. Again, there are some guys here that have gone that route. I would say they are still figuring out a foolproof tune and hardware setup to make the big turbos run like silk. Exciting stuff though!!! Let us know what you decide. Bottom line, up to Malone II is good bang for your buck. Stage 3+ to infinity - get ready to pony up some cash - and maybe have another car as your daily driver while you test/work out kinks... Just my $0.02. Good luck!

I'm stopping at Stage 3 which will be installed on 16th.

Buy the turbo / inlet pipe and EGT spacer / have ECU flashed by Mark to Stage 3.

Done...

Anybody upgrading their clutch with stage 3 or is the stock clutch (6m and DSG) hefty enough to handle stage 3 with no slippage??

I have one on the shelf but haven't had any need for it. Some have DMF shudder(6MT DMF) more than others, mine rarely shudders but I can definitely feel that its worn(120,000 miles).
