Hi, I have several 1Z complete cars and engines with ECM. I want to use the engine only, and need to maintain 1800 RPM. Without doing the math, and I'm horrible at, can I use a VSS, CPS, or ESS. On the crank or cam, to use the cruise to be the governor at 1800 RPM?
And one do this, if so, was it reliable? Ideas are welcome, Artie

You would be better off using a early 1600 indirect injection diesel , then you could use biodiesel and set up cogeneration . using the hot water for heating and a good alternator for electric power.

There are just too many to list....
VAG made plenty of Industrial engines, shop around for parts for one of those. Gensets, pumps, marine, all kinds of things. But they would have used their own ECUs. However, it's all Bosch, so it may be a programming change you can work with.

I think you can raise the idle in the ECU software to be 1800 which is PI controlled that means it'll maintain 1800rpm regardless of the coolant temperature, fuel temperature etc.

It has been a while since I used Vag-com. Does Vag-com allow that? I can see the idle, but dont know if I can adjust it.

i didn't mean in vagcom, i meant in the ecu software. vag-com only goes to about 950 i think

you could send off the ecu to a local guru to socket it and modify the content so it idles at 1800 at all times. just make sure he gets all the constants :D
