We bought a brand new 13 tdi sel last month. we are going in for a little vw first month checkup. Over all we love the car it fits into our needs and looks great doing it... and the mpg :)

BUT there are a few issues that we will be bringing up with only 1,4XX miles on the car I am a little disappointed at the number of things to bring up. I just thought I’d run this list by some of you guys, and I’ll follow up this thread with VW's response and reaction.

1. 65%of the time When we come to a complete stop It feels like the engine misfires for a moment(hiccups, stumbles, almost wants to stall)

2. I want to know what the hissing noise is under the car, by the gas tank. Ad blue system? Fuel pump? leak? idk.

3. Extremely spongy brakes. They will have to bleed the fluid hope that’s it. You press the brake and nothing really happens, then all of a sudden it will brake. The peddle is soft(from what I’m used to) the brakes are extremely unresponsive and seem to have a mind of their own.

4. When in sport mode there is a terrible vibration coming from the glove box/dash area. Not in D or tiptronic mode.

Finally 5. We disagree about this she doesn’t hear it but I swear to god the stereo turns itself (volume) up and down. Like multiple times during a song. She says she doesn’t know what I’m talking about but it drives me nuts to the point that I can’t even listen to it.

I hope none of these are major issues. I'm not used to having a car under warrenty so im hopping they can sort this all out.
anything common, anyone have any suggestions?
thanks all.

Does this happen when listening to the iPod, or is it in AM/FM, Sat, CD, etc? I have sound issues on my 2013 TDI SEL when using the iPod... it's unbearable. Songs will change left to right on-the-fly at random times.

For items 1-4 I'd suggest that you go over every item with the service advisor, SHOW them and take them for a test drive. Yes it's a PIA and it takes time(time to show them and time for them to write it up) BUT atleast service advisor can reproduce the issue for the mechanics.

Yes, i most certainly will . I can replicate all these issues in a 10min drive.

I've noticed #1 quite a bit. I've realized it's a combo of braking and the tranny shifting into first (DSG).

#2 - if the hissing you are hearing is from the passenger side rear corner, that is your AdBlue pump. Nothing can be done about that.

#5 - I can almost guarantee what you are experiencing is Speed Dependent volume. The radio has a setting that you can adjust that will turn up the radio as you go faster to drown out any road or wind noise that may come up as a result of going faster.

Sounds like something I've noticed with the DSG... it doesn't de-clutch soon enough and lugs the engine when coming to a stop. This is also why the brakes feel odd when coming to a stop sometimes. Watch the tach, you'll see it dip a hair below idle then come back up when this happens.

For number 1, what I think you (we) are feeling is that the DSG downshifts/stays in 1st gear at slow speeds vs. going into neutral. To me, it is the same feeling as when you are all but stopped in 1st gear in a manual and either lightly push on the gas or let off the gas.

I don't know there is anything they can do about that, short of a DSG update that removes the downshifting into 1st gear...

Hey guys. Sorry, I have been busy with work this week. Everyone is spot on! I took a ride with the tech and was able to get him to acknowledge all of my concerns.

#1. Yes, it is the dsg downshifting. He says it is 100% normal with these transmissions (jayhawk, I wonder if a tune or a vagcom trick could fix that?) otherwise I don’t mind it as long as long as it is functioning properly.

#2. Yes it is the adblue system. No leaks, no issues.

#3. The brakes are fine. He says it’s the hydraulic brake assist or electronic braking in the new cars. I’m not sure, we are going to have to get used to it. He says there is nothing wrong with them.

#4. He had to tighten a heat shield. All fixed.

#5. The HD setreo/speed sensitivity. He was able to show us how disable those certain features.

Over all we are ecstatic that the car received a good bill of health. We are an audi family and this has been our first vw. We did not know what to expect from the service dept. and ended up very satisfied that they took the time to hear us out, go through each concern we had and explain/fix/help us understand the car a bit more in a timely yet unrushed manner. :)

Thank you all.

#1 did you ever drive car with manual, then if yes tranny is working perfect it's working you do downshifting which is liked a lot since safe brakes as well.
I don't see why do complain.

Good news! I may have to see if the heat shield is the rattle problem for me. I am coming from an Audi myself and have been really happy with the car and dealer/service dept so far too.

yes i drive manual. I am less familiar with dsg transmissions, and this being our first one of only 1 month, I just wanted them to double check to make sure it was operating properly

I pulled out the invoice just now it says "Checked under hood and found that heat shroud for abs module is loose and vibrating against heat shield on fire wall, reinstalled shroud properly"

Maybe its the nature of the beast for these trannys. My Town&Country has the 6spd transmission that almost does the same thing. When I first got it, it use to "thud" when it went from 2nd to 1st while stopping. The VW feels like your pulling the drive lever into low gear when this happens. But I've only had it for 2 weeks now so we are still getting use to it.

"#5. The HD setreo/speed sensitivity. He was able to show us how disable those certain features"

Sorry but this is BS. That's the answer is to disable "features". I can see it now, ME: "my wiper blades jitter when they wipe.." Dealer:"Ok, we can disable them"..

Hmmm, that's a strange response. I've never liked that feature in coupes or sedans, convertibles seems to work okay (if it is sophisticated enough to drop back down when one slows down((haven't found that rig yet)).
