As from the outside it's just another B5 (tornado red by the way) I thought I post a pic of what makes it a TDI:

And for the interior:

Frank - the link works fine...nice car! We can't even get a TDI Passat in the States.

(and yes, the first posting just shows ZOOM X's.)

AND.....just as I type that the first posting pictures show up!?!?!?)

p.s. I move that we allow no more pictures of really cool European TDIs. Do I have a "second"? Those pics just ruined my evening.

The engine's the wrong way round! That is a 1.9 4 cyl right? A 110 bhp from the red "I" right? Looks like the Passat went back to its Audi roots and got an Audi transaxle, unlike my B4 with it's transverse engine and Golf transmission. Does all that iron hanging out the front like that screw up the handling? I heard somewhere that the B5 diesel is not really a corners machine, and that would explain it. Also explains why the bonnet is so damn long on the B5. Guess it means that you could put that new V8 tdi engine in though... Looks a fair bit easier to work on too (more room round the engine).

Wow, what a beauty!!! It is great to see some real EURO IRON here even if we can't really touch it, kinda like being in jail or something. Nice pics Frank!

jaydhall, I don’t like the red either but it was available, better red than nothing, I thought…
Top speed is about 120 mph, I reached that in Germany on the Autobahn. More impressive is, however, that you can maintain around 100 to 105 mph constantly and even then, acceleration is still good.

christi, yes, it’s the 110 HP 1,9 / 4 cyl. Engine and all B5’s engines are longitudinal mounted. The car doesn’t really like cornering, I don’t know if it’s due to the heavy engine or the overall- setup of the car or both but still very nice to drive, especially here in Ireland where the roads are crap. I love driving in England or Germany on decent highways.

I really do not like red. (To each his own, I guess.)

However, if the red passat was available here with a TDi (red i) I would have bought it! For the room and the HP.

But I DO love my sweet Jetta!

Nice car. How fast does it go?

The 1.9L TDIs aren't that heavy. They're actually a bit lighter than the old 2.0L gas engine, and I'm pretty sure they're lighter than the new V6.
