my 1998 new beetle has 400,000 miles on it and the front right "passenger side" axle is starting to fail.
I found these axles on ebay. Drive Tech Axles for like $130 for both of them with boots

I will probably put another few hundred thousand more miles on my car but cheap is my middle name.

It is usually best to keep your original axles and replace the joints. Aftermarket and rebuilt axle are questionably.

I know Brian always talked highly of raxles. I confess I've been semi cheap myself, opting for GKN, which I've had pretty good luck with. I know raxles requires back only OEM as cores, and I don't remember how long the warranty is, but I think it's pretty generous. Like @oilhammer says, I'd stay far away from crappy Chineseium axles.

Now I'll have to do a facepalm if I learn the GKN's are Chinese (was told they're made in Europe)...
