Anybody remember me? Years ago I was here as: Ric Woodruff. I really don't recognize any of the current names now at the site.

Anywho, I still have my '98 Jetta TDI. It now has 184,000 miles. It had about 180,000 miles on it over 4 years ago, when I quit my 7 years of commuting daily to the Cape from Orlando (450 miles per week). Since then, it had sat in the garage until recently, when my youngest son now commutes daily to school with it.

It has been an awesome car these 11+ years. EVERYTHING (besides routine maintenance items) is still ORIGINAL except the A/C compressor, which had to be replaced a couple years ago. Even the back brake pads and coolant in radiator are still original! :D:D:D

I've been changing the oil with AMSOIL 10W-40 every 20,000 miles, but have switched to Mobil 1 5W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil (which is exactly the same Delvac 1 big rig oil), because it is cheaper ($22.00/gallon at Wal-Mart).

Hi, and welcome back. Did that Amsoil product carry any API or VW ratings appropriate for your engine? How long did you run with that oil?

Hey Ric, some of us old-timers are still lurking around. StealthTDI still has his A3 too; I think he rolled over 300K recently. I'm closing in on 200K on mine.

Are you still running on "20TF" and used turkey fryer oil? ;)

Come back to troll us again eh?

A lot has changed since you last trolled us, one of the things that has not changed is that you are banned. The same people who ran TDIClub then are still running it today, and we did not forget your trolling, baiting, and general @sshattery. You and your aliases are banned and banned you shall remain.

Good luck.

Aaaaaannd ....... you're done! Welcome back and don't let the door hit you in the @ss on the way out! LOL! That's gotta be the quickest entrance/exit in TDI Club history!

And here I was thinking that some of the other oldtimers were gonna start making comebacks. Guys like Skypup or Valois etal showing up to take us on a little trip down memory lane! ;)

BK, why'd you have to lay the smackdown on him so early? I was gonna ask him if he was still running 20 year old tractor fuel in his TDI!

Thanks! The AMSoil carried a DIESEL rating. That is all I care about. VW ratings are just there to try to get you to pay-thru-the-nose and buy your oil from a VW stealership. I don't fall for that.

I still went 20K miles w/ the Mobil 1 5W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil.

Update!!!

Our old '98 Jetta TDI now has 250K miles, and still runs great!

Our son in Jan. of 2014 drove from Orlando area to LA towing a pretty good size U-Haul with his motorcycle and a bunch of household items in (as he was moving), along with the car filled to the gills with stuff. All this was with a car that said in the Manual "For technical reasons, you cannot tow with this car".

I was very worried about both the age of the car, and the heavy weight he had going through the mountains. I really thought he'd blow the ORIGINAL turbo, but he actually made it there in 3 days w/o incident!!!
