1996 VW Passat TDI wagon. Located near San Bernardino, Southern California.
I'm asking $5000 OBO, but please make me offers
1.9l diesel engine and a 5-speed transmission. Zero rust wagon with 210,000 miles.
This car will never need to pass California smog! All diesels pre-1998 are smog exempt.
I bought this thing in Florida and got 53 mpg all the way back to California.
The air blows cold cold. Like genuinely cold.
Exterior is a 6/10. Sun damage is bad on the roof and hood with peeling clear coat. Someone backed into me recently and damaged the right front valence underneath the headlight (see picture). I'm also missing the corner pieces for headlights, but i have the stock headlights and corner pieces still. I was involved in an accident where the front of the car was damaged and professionally repaired. The title is clean. I added the Euro style taillights with the smoked clear instead of yellow reverse lights.
Interior is 9/10 with new upholstery on the seats and a new headliner. Small things are broken here and there on the inside, like the visor clips, emergency brake light housing, and shroud for the steering wheel column. The driver door card hangs a bit at the bottom. I have spare components for the steering wheel shroud and interior plastics. Just haven't gotten around to replacing them. I installed a new stereo, swapped the cigarette lighter for a high-speed USB charging port, and added new speakers in all four doors.
The engine is good, transmission good, body good (paint bad). No leaks, rattles or weird noises. I swapped the 1996 BK ECU for the 1996.5-1997 GQ ECU.
I have upgraded injectors along with a Malone stage 1.5 tune in the upgraded GQ ECU.
It does have one CEL for the glow plug harness. I've replaced the glow plugs and the issue isn't resolved. I never bothered to fix it since it never gets cold enough to need glow plugs. If you want the code to go away just swap back to the BK ECU lol it doesn't check the glow plug harness.
Recent maintenance history (within the last 20,000 miles) includes:
- new timing belt kit, replacement and associated pulleys
- New AC compressor
- New turbo
- New glow plugs
- New upgraded fuel injectors
- New (ish) tires and wheels
- New brake pads and front rotors
- Intake and exhaust manifolds were both cleaned recently
- EGR was blocked and stopped. These cars tend to plug the intake very quickly from the EGR.
- New gaskets and seals all the way around, except rear main.
Oil was changed regularly at 4,500 mile intervals.
I also have a matching wagon with bill of sale and a Oregon title. It's in a lot worse shape with rust and a blown turbo with leaky gaskets. I'm very willing to consider a package offer for both wagons. Additionally, I have a bunch of spare parts and components to go with the sale.
Thanks for looking!
