Hi, thanks for looking.
1996 TDi Passat Wagon. This is our family's third Passat TDI of this generation; we know the cars pretty well.
As most of you know, the car gets 45ish mpg with an 18 gallon tank which takes you 700+ miles on a fill.
The car stops, goes, turns, runs, goes down the road smoothy and straight. It is a comfortable car. It is our current daily driver.
BUT- it's pretty worn. The paint clear coat has peeled significantly. The interior is is complete, but worn. The sunroof is stuck in the open position see picture.
We have done the following work in the last couple of years: New timing belt +/- 6k ago, also did the seals, water pump, hoses, thermostat.
Injection pump re-seal including calibration with Rouse-tech VCDS software.
New glow plugs, relay and harness. And yet.... although the glow plugs work perfectly, the cluster indicator light does not always illuminate during the glow cycle. On a cold day, turn on the ignition and count to 10 then go. I suspect the cluster.
Radio works intermittently. The vacuum system hoses are dying. It's a super easy replacement, but until it's done the power level jumps up and down b/c the computer can't accurately measure the air charge in the manifold.
It leaks a little oil.
The harmonic balancer squeaks on cold start then goes away.
All of the door handles work but they can be an issue.
Comes with the IDparts.com timing belt tool kit (minus barring tool), spare misc parts, spare door handles, complete 2-book Bentley manuals, clear title in our name, and owners Manuals. You can drive it home but you will want to deal with the vacuum leak for it to smooth out.
Also listed on FB Marketplace and up for auction on Ebay.

I can host the pictures if you want, send them to hikerinmaine at gmail.com.

The wagon doesn't have the 18 gallon fuel tank, that's the sedan. The wagons have a 26+ fuel tank although I have put over 28 gallons into mine. I'm only a 9 hour drive from there if anyone needs any work done on it. I'm pretty handy around the B4.

No real rust. I remember seeing a surface spot....somewhere low. But the pictures while not flattering are accurate. I think this car lived in eastern WA or OR for much of it's life, so no rust isn't surprising, and it's even drier where I am than east of the Cascades.

Looks like a wagon with some good life still left, hope it finds a good home.

In case someone in the greater Rocky Mountain West region buys this and it stays near here, I think my 1996 wagon is pretty much at parts car status now.... Planning to finally yank the engine and trans (and harness, etc) at the end of this summer when the current registration runs out and then would be happy to offer what's left to someone trying to keep another car like this going. Mine is the identical color combo with the exception that mine has major body rust on almost every exterior panel, and beige cloth rather than leather. The car is pretty well hammered in most cosmetic areas. BUT the body and interior are complete, nice new leather boots for the handbrake and shift lever, a nice newly redone headliner, glass E-code headlamps (and all good lights/lenses elsewhere), Koni Yellow front struts, 4 working window regulators and door handles, etc...... Hate to junk it if someone in the same general part of the country could use it to make another B4 live a little longer.

Anyway, bottom line, if someone is looking at this and would see value in having a parts car, could be an option given that B4 parts are more of a challenge than they used to be.

GLWS!

I am in need of some wagon parts should you decide to go that route and no one uses the entire car. I'll PM later, working 12 hour days currently and it's wearing me out.
