What is this car worth. Looking to buy locally. Guy is asking $1500 with a non running engine. This is the text from the ad. 267 000 kms

TESTING WATERS: trying too see how much I can get for my. 1991 Volkswagen corrado g60 model with the supercharger. In great condition one owner always serviced at Autohaus Vw. Perfect project. NOT RUNNING. Stalled on me n never tried to fix it.has all the power options has a genuine vw Motorsport stress bar. If you know these cars you'll know how rare they are. Oh and also supercharger is in perfect working order. Have all the service receipts. Lots of new parts within the last year...

- new alternator
- complete tune up, all wires plugs filters
- water pump
- belts
- new supercharger pully
- brakes all around
- control arms
- ball joints
- front upper strut mounts

All done with in the year, at vw only genuine vw parts no aftermarket.

What is the location? What condition is the body? Stalled could mean anything-blew a line and ran out of oil, threw a timing belt, blew a head gasket and flooded the engine w coolant, etc.
For a Corrado with a perfect/fully restored body, where everything works( rear spoiler, etc) $1500 would be reasonable, even w a blown engine. If it has rust, or is torn up/modified, etc just walk away.

"Stalled on me" is pretty vague. Especially followed by "n never tried to fix it"

On my first 90 Corrado, I had a hall sender issue on the distributer. Sometimes it wouldn't start or sputter while running, I just disconnected the plug and reconnected it and I could continue on till eventually I had to replace the distributer. At that time the distro was not a serviceable item per the dealer, only later did I find I could have just bought a hall sender from an older 8 valve.

Without more info and eyes on the car, I would say it is not worth it. Unless you have more details on the problem.

Reach out to G60ING either here or the Vortex, he is the Corrado Guru! Maybe he can offer up some clues to value and potential issues.

AHU conversion... :D

Body is everything, and the interior needs to be decent and complete. . All else is fixable

That is what I am doing, but mine will be "1Z"

The mods done to my B4 where enough to make me smile, all those torks in the lighter nimbler Corrado, will be that much more enjoyable..

Although my Stage 4 G60 was no slouch.....

Did someone say B4 part out?:)

The engine doesn't work but he claims the supercharger is perfect. You will just have to take his word for that. Also it is in great condition...but the engine is bad. So not really in great condition.

Interesting cars for sure. I almost bought one a while back but couldn't get the hood open. He drained the oil but couldn't pop the hood (a common problem) so I just walked. Wasn't interested in a project (beyond the standard project that every Corrado inevitably becomes).

$1,500 is kind of pricey for a non running corrado but then again if the body was rust free with great paint and interior I'd pay $3,000 with no engine. It all depends on how far you want to get into it. Also without inspecting the charger I never consider them in good condition. Does it have a good after market suspension? Good brakes? Good wheels? Tires? Look at the sum of all the parts incase you want to rebuild it into a daily driver.

I have never seen a vw Motorsport strut bar but I'm very interested in it as I'm hot to trot for a strut bar for my car. Send me a pic and I would possibly be willing to pay you for it and supply an old school autotech bar to install in its place.

well due to work schedules between me and the seller I'm going to see it on Sunday . I don't really care about the engine as I plan on swapping a AHU into it. but we shall see how it looks. I'm not interested in getting into a rust repair, part sourcing car. my hands are full on that front already. lol.

I just texted him. he still has it bit has a deposit down on it. bit is still willing to sell of I pony up before the guy with the deposit does. kinda shady bit oh well. I'll see it Sunday. I'll get pics of the strut bar if I don't buy the car. so at least u will have pics for your collection.
if I buy the car we can discuss the bar at that point. I'm figuring I'm going to be picking your brain a fair bit on swap info.

well that deal is done. not in a good way. he did not send a pic. did not return texts for 3 days till I called him out as being a typical Winnipegger selling stuff. Didnt make him happy. but he was pretty flaky right from the start. Im not losing sleep over this one.

Oh well, thanks for the new adjective. If I come across a Canadian that flakes on a deal I'll call them out, Winnipegger. Do you want me to keep an eye out for a southern Corrado in good condition for you?

All this interest in corrados makes me want to take pictures of my solid bodied corrado, clean interior, working sunroof and spoiler when parked years ago and get it up for sale.
Pretty sure she is still rust free, but in my eyes now the engine and brakes and suspension are probably shot. Motor had electrical problems it's whole life(2.0 8v ABA) original g60 car.
The car is pretty far from y'all.....
It's got the "neuspeed g60 rear strut bar" in it too.

ok the ad is back up. so obv his "buyer" fell through. I humbly appologized for my winnipegger comment to him. will see if he responds. One thing is for sure, i know i wont be paying his asking price since he is on second round of trying to sell it.

He probably just had a typical winnipegger corrado buyer ;)

Let me know about the corrado bar, I'm still interested...my wife isn't:D

what is your obsession with the strut bars? Lol
My wife is not interested in me acquiring another car. Between my 98 jetta, 97 suzuki sidekick and 2 trailers in the driveway she is not impressed. But the Corrado just has a strange appeal to me. Would end up being a summer only car me thinks.

welcome to the club. i ended up selling one scirocco + an extra engine, the other is "hidden" behind the house. an '88 gli still sits near the wood pile, full of random parts from you-name-it. my 05 is now a "parts car" up on blocks right smack in the driveway with no wheels, suspension, subrame, etc. stereo went into my mk1.. basement is full of wiring, parts, an engine, transmission, etc :D

the corrado is a nice car. one day after i finish my scirocco, i would like a corrado or an mk2 golf, or a datsun 240-260z with a tdi in it

My corrado is almost done, if I'm drilling holes in a car I'm going to keep long term (until death) I will test every bar I can get my hands on before I drill to see what floats my boat most.

can you actually notic that big of a difference between the different strut bars?
Im going to see the car on Sunday, so even if I dont buy it, i will grab a bunch of pics, especially some good ones of the strut bar.
If I had more room at my house, id have more vehicles. But thank god I dont have the roonm right now. 55x155 lot. 14x 30 garage, and 1300 sq/ft bungalo. lots of room for new bigger garage, but I have to guarantee her that there will be room for her car in new garage. currently, no cars reside in garage. and I will have to make room for the corrado.

Now im looking at buying another car for the donor TDI. Id like to get another mk3 jetta that ive got one located already for cheap, but what is the ideal chassid for the corrado that I can use the most parts from for the swap? Fab is not an issue. but I would like to keep things like wiring modification to a min. Im comfortable with the AHU engine as well.

You can't, but you can prefer how one looks and fits over one another and I'm board. I travel a lot and when I decompress from work in find myself surfing and searching for things related to my hobbies.

There is a huge thread with dozens of links that show various builds in mk2, corrados and what not. Post 35 of this thread has as far as I'm aware the only list of all various parts required to do a swap.

If I were doing a Corrado TDI this is the list of parts that I would plan on but then again there are many different ways to accomplish the swap:

  • Corrrado
  • B4 or Mk3 TDI for engine and drivetrain parts
  • B4 Pedal Cluster
  • B4 Engine wiring matches the corrado's holes better then the mk3 but they can both work. Careful with mixing and matching the ECUs, wiring harnesses, injectors and injection pumps. The glowplug circuits have different wiring. make certain you have the correct glowplug wiring that matches the ECU if if want the glowplugs to work properly without CELs. I also think that the 1Z engines have a lower popping pressure on the injectors so mixing and matching the ECUs could cause some issues here to.
  • Mk3/b4 TDI instrument cluster wiring as well as OBD2 diagnostic port. the B4 and Mk3 have minor differences in the cluster wiring. My recommendation would be to use the cluster wiring that is ment for the cluster. On my AHU Corrado I made my cluster's wiring harness from a bunch of spare aba and g60 cluster harnesses. What a PITA. On a corrado use a Passat TDI cluster it's a perfect fit in the corrado dash
  • I like the OBD2 diagnostic port mounting bracket that is used on the mk4s for mounting this plug wherever you want. I put my 1st one up under the dash. my 2nd one is under the shift boot Both used the mk4 mounting bracket. I like it under the shift boot a LOT more.
  • Mk3 or SLC K-frame (You can use a g60 frame but it does not allow for the better motor mounts that the VR6 and TDI use) Passat will NOT work at ALL
  • Passat/SLC front crossmember (must use a Vr6/tdi style motor mount) Mk3 will NOT work at ALL
  • ABA 2L or TDI 1.9L rear motor mount bracket
  • b4/mk3 tdi front motor mount bracket. The B4 ABA 2L 5spd front motor mount bracket is the same.
  • Any mk3/rado/b3/b4 02A transmission bracket
  • TDI motor mounts (Vr6 mounts will work but I'm uncertain of the vibration & longevity qualities)
  • Use a mk2 TD airbox or a cone filter. Some have modified the 8V's airbox. I attempted this before getting my TD's airbox and wasn't satisfied with the aesthetic results.
  • Intercooler and pipes: This is something that depends on your car and which options you decide to keep.I used a G60 intercooler, FMICs on a corrado are a pita due to piping length, room to mount it and keeping the a/c. I personally hate having a bunch of hose connections as each connection is just another opportunity for a boost leak. Sure you can mix match pipes and hoses to avoid custom metal pipes but my feeling is that its worth every penny to go custom. Some people have been able to use PVC and Copper from Home Depot. I like the Copper pipe idea and used it on a friends AEB Mk2 swap for a couple of water hoses. It was very easy to work with when compared to steel.
  • Radiator, use a corrado one
  • use the rado a/c wiring or adapt to the mk3/b4 setup (I used the Rado setup on mine which is the same as the Mk2's). I did use a SPAL fan with the factory fan shroud because it freed up some engine bay space and made the swap look much cleaner.
  • fuel lines: this can be done in a number of ways. I think I used gas lines my 1st tdi rado and mk3 tdi lines on my 2nd.
  • tdi fuel filter assembly
  • In my opinion the mk2 diesel fuel tank is the best bolt in tank but i have never tried it so it may not fit well. On my corrado swaps I have always used the corrado tank after modding the nozzle inlet.
  • fuel sender can be whatever you need for each fuel tank...g60 fuel tank is best with the mk3 tdi fuel sender after you cut the bottom retaining ring out of the tank. The slc tank requires a more involved solution because the tank is deeper thank the g60. I used the slc's fuel pump and regulated it down to 7psi. A mk2 diesel tank should use the mk2 diesel fuel sender. On my corrado I have tried the mk3 tdi fuel tank and it doesn't fit very well as the spout is too close to the door. I used a corrado tank with an enlarged nozzle opening. I don't know how a mk2 tank will fit in a corrado.
  • rado shift cables.
  • mk3 tdi or mk3 2L Power steering High pressure line. I think the Passat one is too long.
  • stock rado axles
  • use the corrado control arms, rack, spindles & brakes. If you want to do a 5x100 conversion then go search that on the vortex, it's been covered many times.
  • The G60 Corrado's swaybar interfered with the cat's support bracket so I used the mk3 TDI swaybar. I have since swapped to an aftermarket autotech sway bar and removed the down pipe support.
  • Use the TDI donor's downpipe and Cat (if you don't upgrade or delete)
  • Rest of the exhaust can be whatever you want. Mine have use a mishmash of gasser mufflers and over the axle pipes.
  • ECU Mounting, On my Corrados I had to make custom mounts as the ecu did not mount the same as the donor cars.
  • Battery Cables: I like the mk3 cables much more then the rado cables.
for a/c there are at least two routes
  1. use the corrado g60 evaporator in the dash and have a custom line from the evaporator to the compressor created and then a custom line from the the compressor to the condensor
  2. Use the mk3 or SLC evaporator and then use an SLC a/c line from the condensor to the evaporator. Use a mk3 TDI or ABA 2L or slc a/c line to the compressor from the evaporator. Have the compressor to the condenser line modified using a corrado line and tdi donor end. My cost was $75 per a/c line for mods.
One guy used the passat radiator and condensor with passat a/c lines.

Feel free to update the list and make it better for others :)
