1990 Mk2 Cabriolet Soft Top Rear Cable Query

Not a TDI specific question, but y'all have endless info/insight on so much stuff so thought I'd try.

Hi the rear cable for my girlfriend's 1990 cabriolet snapped this winter. Wondering if someone has one of these kicking around? I've scoured the internet for a couple options but after shipping duty/back order delays I'm hoping someone closer to home has one or a line on one?

just make another one - aircraft cable and aluminum crimps from a hardware store works fine.
It;s been years since I owned my Cabby, but I recall fabricating at least three cables for it during the time I had it.

Ya that's a great idea I had considered. Question tho, shes never needed a replacement in years of owning the car. Are they that susceptible to wear that we might do this 3 more times? Thanks for the idea.

Eh, I live in Ontario - more corrosion here - the ones I replaced were due to rust. Depends on how the car is driven and stored.

Fair nuff! Her car is from Ontario too, tho it now lives on the west coast and failed die to rust. Alright I'm inspired I'll do it! Thanks again.

Picky, I'll admit, but here was no mark 2 Rabbit / Golf based drop top. If you had been searching with mark 2 as a key word I have no doubt you have difficulties locating a replacement cable.
The 1979 through 1993 Cabriolet was mark 1.
The 1995 through 2002 Cabrio was mark 3 (even though the mark 4 grille was installed on those from 1998 on).

Not too picky at all! Thanks for the tip. And ya admittedly I was just using the 1990 VW thing to find info on it. EIther way I was always curious because I think the Golf MK2 includes 1990, but this is and will forever be helpful information for finding out stuff about this car.
