I wouldn't worry too much about old fuel.
If the tank was sealed, it should still burn just fine in that old an engine.
I got a 98 Jetta that sat in a field for 10 years or so, and when I got it home and cranked it, it started. That was on the 10-year-old fuel it already had in it. (The injector pump had a bad seal, so it didn't run well, but it did run.)

I'm considering patching some rust (a LOT of rust) on that car, to make it roadworthy. It's not a job for the faint of heart, but it can be done. It's all about how willing you are to do the work. And if you're in a hurry, don't bother. You won't manage the job quickly.
