'15 Passat TDI - Timing Belt & Water Pump Replacement Cost

Hi Everyone,

Quick question, my Passat is about due for replacement of the timing belt and water pump. I take my car to the same local shop, and they quoted me $1397.

$945 for labor and $412 for parts. Should I call around, or is that a fair price?

Labor guide shows 3.4 hours, so round up to 4 hours. Ask them what their labor rate is... I'm guessing by the price that they're not going with oem parts? The oem parts are a lot more expensive, as the original water pump was a variable displacement one. I'd recommend going with a hepu or Graf one instead. FCP euro or id parts both have good kits for them. I got the last kit from FCP euro, as idparts was out of stock.

I just did this recently (3 months ago) myself. With CKRA engine I did not need to undo motor mounts. I got an essentials kit from dieselgeek and tools from idparts. Pretty straight forward, but I did get help from a good indy mobile mechanic for confirmation.

As an aside, get a look at the old water pump and see if there is any stuff coming out the weep hole. Mine did and I have a theory this is an early sign of bearing seal leakage.

Older post but for future reference ... I'm in Delaware at a home guru cost me 800 for parts, 550 for water pump, timing belt and the fixings so 1350. Local dealership wanted 2600, smaller shops wanted between 1500 and 2400.

Sounds about right, i had our old CJAA TB done for about $1000 back in 2016ish, shop costs and parts have only gone up.

There will always be the guy who says he knows a shop that will charge a 12pack and $50, so it's tough to compare prices.

Just took in my 2015 Passat into local VW Dealer (Roseland Motors - Burlington Ontario). Dealer quoted $1200 Canadian plus tax - (912 USD) for parts and labour for:

sad thing is looking at just the water pump most dealers prob charg USD $300-350, and thats listed at CAD $260, pretty good prices you have up there in Frostbackastan.
