At 6 am on 7/3, as I was driving my 2013 Passat to work on 5 lane freeway, my glow plug pigtails warning light came on and I noticed a significant decrease in power. I barely made it from middle lane onto right shoulder before car engine shut off. I was only an inch away from right lane. I was stressed, scared and afraid to get out of car and afraid I would get hit. AAA towed to dealer. Diagnostic showed complete failure of fuel pump and they found metal in lines so the entire fuel system needs replaced. (Estimate is $7K). This is our 3rd VW (87k miles) and second TDI. We know how to maintain cars (fill up whenever we are at half tank, use reputable gas stations, etc) and we service regularly at dealer. I created an incident report with NHTSA per recommendation in this forum and will be calling VWOA on Monday. I need to get car fixed but sharing so others know the failure of fuel pumps is ongoing. I hope VWOA makes this right.
