Hi all,

I have a 2020 Seat Leon Mk3.5 1.6 TDI (engine code DGTE) that I’ve owned for the last few months since 63k Kms, that I’m thinking about future upgrades.
It’s currently stage 1 remapped from stock 115bhp to 145bhp.

The next logical step is turbo upgrade, GTD1449vz I’ve read is a good bolt on upgrade, already fitted to the 2.0tdi 184hp version of the Leon.

But, I’d then be limited by the injectors. I’ve not read that fuel pump is a limit on these cars, but I could be wrong!
So currently I have delphi injectors, VW part code 04L130277BF, delphi part code 28577054.

The only option I have found is the darkside upgrade path, but it is pricey (imo) at £1440 https://www.darksidedevelopments.co...6-tdi-cr-engines-with-delphi-fuel-system.html
I found it very hard to research this topic, info/specs on delphi injectors are next to impossible to find.

Are there any realistic alternatives to the darkside injectors? New nozzles on current injectors? Would the 2.0 tdi T6 injectors fit the 1.6 and be effective?

The delphi injectors I have (28577054) and the ones for the 2.0L tdi (28475606) are both of the delphi injector family "Delphi DFI 1.20"....so they might be compatible...hard to tell. Again haven't found any specs yet

So, I actually messaged a company in Ireland specialising in diesel injectors and fuel pumps about this. They said that both injectors have the same body and connectors, so should work fine after a tune.

Now for the question of what the max flow of 1.6 vs 2.0 injectors is I don't know. But the 2.0 injectors go in to a VW transporter bi turbo at 201hp stock, I would imagine they have plenty of extra flow for my goals.

Some more googling reveals that certain versions of the MQB (mk7 platform) 1.6 TDI are able to hit ~200 hp using the standard injectors, it seems like a bit of luck involved whether the car has these better injectors or whether you'll be limited to about 170 hp.

So I think for my future upgrades I'm going to forget about injector upgrades unless it's obvious that that's the limiting factor.

Darkside developments would probably know what's required, they tune a lot of these 1.6tdi. Think they found the limit to the bottom end at just over 250hp lol.
But they have others that run daily at 240hp.

My first thing would be the turbo on mine, it's defo the limit at the moment but moneys a limiting factor just now.

I'm actually messaging them currently. They don't have an injector upgrade for my car, despite the Delphi upgrade from them.
I have a 5 speed manual TKV mq250 gearbox that is only good to about 200hp (cant remember torque) until things start to go...diff and 3rd gear most reported. Clutch might also slip for me before 200hp.

They have some 1.6 TDI mk7 platform cars that hit 200hp with this turbo + a few extra bits.

So to get to 250hp is a huge amount of more upgrades. Big turbo necessitating egr cooler delete, upgrade the charge cooler somehow, change to mq350 6 speed gearbox plus high performance clutch, upgrade injectors, upgrade fuel pump, water meth, downpipe and exhaust o_O

Hi,

Have you reached any conclusion with them?
I am also interested in an injector swap in the future, since the 1.6 TDI 115 PS model's (Delphi-only?) injectors have such a loud ticking noise at idle that it just completely covers the normal engine noise.
Listen to this:

I am very much curious, which injectors make this noise and which don't? Is it possible the Bosch injected TDIs are more silent?
Does anyone have a Bosch-injected 1.6 TDI to confirm?
I believe the injectors should match, since the engine is the same, you said above that the electrical connection is the same and I know the ECU has an injection quanitity adaptation function, so it should be able to calibrate itself just fine (without any further tuning, imo - I am not interested in much further performace).

But, more than anything, what did Darkside Developments say?

Thanks!

I'll be honest I listened to all those videos and I can't tell the difference. A diesel will always sound agricultural at idle, it's just the nature of the engine, especially with the bonnet open.

I found a upgraded delphi injector, not a bosch injector. You can't switch between delphi and bosch injectors without switching a lot of other things also, I don't even know how much but everything with the fuel system and the ECU and some wiring harnesses...could be more!
Have a look at this manual for the ea288 engine, pages 62 - 64. The delphi and bosch fuel systems and thus injectors are fundamentally different.
https://vwts.ru/pps/pps_seat_162_ea288_family_engines_eng.pdf

Because I have the 5 speed manual gearbox, I'm eventually going to set a goal of about 190hp. I haven't talked more to Darkside yet. Anymore than 190hp and ~350nm torque (factory spec of mq250 transmission is 250nm!) and I think transmission will be unhappy. So that means not a huge amount of upgrades, I think standard injectors will reach this so I'm going to wait and see and not buy new injectors yet.
