Sportswagen (going to buy)
What is the experience of the group with ordering the 2010 sportswagen. I am looking for a salsa red with black interiors, sunroof and without navigation. The dealers are not very encouraging about order, and say that I will have to wait 3-4 months. Is that true, and also does VW actually custom manufacture to order or just ships one that happens to fit the ordered specs as and when it gets manufactured.

Thanks,
EM

EM, I highly suggest reading page 1 of this thread:
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4397743&page=1

Actually I recommend reading the whole thing if you have time... you will learn an incredible amount of information. (including why you might want to give the Salsa Red and Black interior a good long thought. :D )

VW pretty much builds them all to order, it's just a question of whether it's to *your* order configuration, or one the dealer requested/accepted (sometimes they can just say "fill my slot with whatever's quickest"). It's all in what allocation the dealer gets and how they wish to use it.
At this point yes, you would probably be looking at Jan/Feb for a custom order today, because dealers get so little allocation for these and fill them quickly. Unfortunately, you would've been better off to order in June/July as alot of folks did (myself included); now there's a backlog. Again, if you visit that thread, you'll understand more about the whole order/allocation process.

Another possibility is, you can ask the salesmen in that thread to try to find you an unsold car already in the system that meets your specifications, and they'll provide you any matching dealers in the area you request. They've helped a number of people like this.

Good luck! :)

X2. I had a car on order that was not moving through the system. One of the salesmen on vortex contacted me privately to offer me two cars in as many weeks. I passed on the first one, because it had an option I didn't want. Seeing the writing on the wall, I took the second car with the porto wheels I didn't want. So, you may have some luck with VWvortex, give it a try. ;)

My 2010 Jetta Sportwagen TDI Salsa Red/Titan black interior Pano Roof and Porto 17" wheels is built and is due in port on Oct 17 and at the dealer 7-10 days later!
I believe it was ordered in the end of June.......
If you can get in on an allotment and from what I hear all slots spoken for and no new allotment until the end of this month (my Dealer) at least 100 days after you get a slot and VW accepts it..........

I ordered 2010 TDI Sportswagen, salsa red, black interior, without navigation, rear bumper trim, sunroof, mud guards, 6-speed manual on 10 June 2009 here in Doral, FL, area. No other frills. It arrived at dealer on 28 Sep, about 3 weeks ahead of predicted last week of October delivery. I scrambled to sell my 2002 TDI wagon. The only thing missing that I ordered was the rear bumper trim, which the dealer placed an order for the same day I inspected vehicle. Trim arrived 4 days later, which I installed myself. By the way, if you didn't know, comes with complimentary 6 month satellite radio subscription. Never had satellite radio before and it's sort of grown on me over the last few days.

Ordered my 2010 Sportwagen on September 24. My dealer had already used/sold alotted TDI's for the year, so they had to converse with/beg the District Rep for an alottment. It is reported the car will be ready to deliver on 12/28...I hope so due to the 12/31 cutoff for the 2009 tax credit. Fingers crossed.

2010 JSW on order
I ordered mine on July 30 (another red one) and it came in on Saturday, almost a month ahead of what the dealer thought. I pick it up tomorrow.

After picking out my choices for options and color, I found the exact JSW was already on my local dealers list of cars scheduled to be delivered. I put $500 down on it September 4th....latest ETA is the last week of October.

2010 JSW TDI, Candy White with Beige Interior, 6spd Manual, Rear Side Airbags (4X4), Mat Kit (JWM).

I've already bought VW splash guards, chrome "volkswagen" license plate frame, VW key chain, "tdiclub.com" sticker, and new 17" wheels and tires (VW Goal silver w/ Pirelli PZero Nero 225/45-17) and I don't even have the car yet!! :D

I had this same concern. My salesman told me that as long as the car is contracted before Dec 31, you'll get the tax benefit even if you don't physically have the car before the 2009 expires. Fortunately for me, it's no longer a concern.

My problem with the ordering process was that the JSW does not offer the options that you can get in the GTI. For example, you can't get real leather interior, or automatic headlights, or two driver power seat controls, or full bluetooth control on the navi system, or rear seat side air bags.

I am sure the list goes on, but you get the idea. There is no way to specify these options from the "Build" section of the VW website. The salesman cannot help you with it because they are not offered in their order sheets.

The basic philosophy at VW is that the JSW TDI is like the old Rabbit Pickup Truck. Strictly a utility vehicle. Their take seems to be that anyone who would want all those options should buy an Audi.

Ordering a JSW will take four months, but there is still no guarantee you will end up with the car you really, really want. You will just have to take it as it comes. The only thing special about my JSW is the Navi system and knowing what I know now, I would just get a high end stick on unit that had bluetooth with a phone book.

Blue/beige JSW. Dealer photo, now on a truck from PA to CA

mtbr297, My blue/beige is on the way. Can post more pictures next weekend if you want.

Mico in SF ordered blue/biege for me but it won't come in until January at earliest. Chris had what I wanted. What I wanted and shipped across the US for just a little above MSRP.

I ordered my JSW on Sept 24, just learned today it is "Intransit from Factory" status at present. Original delivery ETA was 12/28, now may get it in early December. They even gave me the VIN number...now I can write that on a piece of paper and put it under my pillow and just dream about the fuel mileage and fun headed my way...HA, HA!!

I ordered mine from Billco in Wexford, PA and am waiting for it to come in at the end of the month. Just checked their site the other day and see that they have 2 Manual sportwagon tdi's. Not what I ordered, but I know one is white gold, Pano, porto.

Well its here...ordered it 9/24, got to the dealer on 12/1, 27 days ahead of initial estimate. I have not picked it up yet because the humidity and rain has not let up so the dealer can paint the body side moldings and roof spoiler and get those on it...but word is next Tuesday it should be in my hands. Can't wait to see it, (although I guess I already have thanks to this site)...several people apparently beat me to the punch with the Graphite Blue/Goal Grey combination but I am good sharing the good looks with a few other lucky owners (Ha), only other options on the car besides the above were the trunk liner and iPod adapter...with a manual 6spd of course, paid $700 and change under MSRP.

Congrats on the car and getting it earlier than planned.

My question is, I also wanted body side moldings but thought the black ones were not too appealing. If you don't mind me asking, what did they charge you for the side moldings & painting them and installation?

Thanks Much!

I agree that some of the Golf/GTI options in our JSW's would have been nice (Xenons, Leather, 9W3 etc) but I think your post leans towards the negative side.

I wanted specific equipment and it looked like my local dealer would not have the vehicle arrive before mid Feb next year at MSRP. Then Tomo366 told me about Chris from Langhorne and figured it couldn't hurt to call him. I did and he has been great to deal with. In the end, I got exactly what I wanted for $825 below MSRP (including installing snow tires I ordered from tirerack) and I'll have the car at the end of this month. Working with the right people makes all the difference.

Thanks for the link. That looks great but I don't see it specifically mention the JSW, only the sedan. Would this fit both?
In a word yes......the sportwagen and the sedan are the same from the A pilar to the C pilar......

I found this thread it seems that most guys who have installed used Zeta products mouldings

I ordered my JSW TDI The first part of Nov. and it came 3 weeks later. One week earlier than the Dealer said. Black w biege int, auto, no sunroof. It did come with rear side airbags , which I had not spec'd, But, I figured the dealer wanted to make a little extra. I did not pay any Dealer Markup.
550 miles later , no problems and I like it very much.
