Hi guys. We all know that auto G/J BEW cars eat axles almost as badly as a Passat. This seems to be a good solution to that problem.

I responed to burpod's WTB thread a while back about some 09A axles:
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=481810&highlight=special+turds

Seems like 90% of 09A cars that ever came into my shop already had a set of chaxles installed at some prior point.
Those 09A mkiv axles truly are some rare and special turds.
I found that Autozone carries a duralast reman version of both sides that does resemble the OEM shafts and joints. The boots leave something to be desired and I never gained enough experience with these parts to say whether the joints used aren't simply made out of the same chinesium butter metal like their full blown chaxle counterparts. It's at least not an expensive bet since these run under $70/ea. You do want to pull them out of the box while you're there and inspect. Sometimes it's just a regular new crappy axle I'm guessing they do this when they don't get an OE core back. I always reluctantly played the core game honestly and gave them the OE part I was replacing. I don't know why I always had reservations about letting one go since I wouldn't have anything better to do with it. The core charge is a pitiful $10 anyway.
Anyway, that's my experience.
I just picked up a set of the Reman axles mentioned in that thread and I thought I'd put up some pics.

The car I'm working on had all 4 boots blown and the inners were sloppy so I grabbed a set of these from Autozone. The price apparently has come down. They're $40/ea and the core is $5.

I'm not saying these are really super great axles, all I'm saying is that they're probably better than new Chinese axles. They appear to have OEM GKN joints on them.

Just a general FYI here. That is all.

Thanks for this Robby, I just ordered a set to have around for my wifes 06 Golf with 185K.
I will post a pic of the ones I get and see if they are the same quality.

Sad to see you closed shop and moved out of Texas!
We moved up here to Iowa about 2 years ago, but are planning on moving back in the next 5 or so, Texas is our true home and where all our family is.

Thanks for all the work you did to my vehicles over the years (DMF in 06 Jetta, nozzles and oil pan in silver 03 Jetta) and that set of Avus wheels I got from you.
I still have your shirt I wear all the time (it is a very comfortable and nice shirt).
Funny story, I actually ran into a guy in Austin one night wearing the exact same shirt! Couldn't believe the chances, we had a nice laugh about it haha.
Take care!

Look at those axles in the store before you turn over your cores and bring them home. You now know what you're looking for. The reman will usually have little dabs of green, orange or pink paint on the oetiker clamps for the boots and various other splotches of paint that probably are some sort of process quality control check.

Ha! Yes those shirts are nice. My friend Jeff sent me a picture a few months back of two dads in Meyerhoff shirts picking up their kids at school. Pure coincidence.

Much of my family remains in TX as well but I can't see moving back to Austin. It's just way too crowded nowadays.
