I am about to buy a new Jetta or wagon, are there any indications that VW may offer special interest rates like some of the US companies have.

I've heard radio ads, but guess which model is exempt? TDI
I'm hoping for a change with 2010 models in this economy. <--- me holding breath

I don't think the super-low interest rates apply for the TDI, only the gas Jettas, but I might be wrong.

Chris from Langhorne VW in Philly told me he can get 4.9 to 5.9 for TDIs, depending on one's credit. That's thru a private lender, not VW Credit.

I received an e-mail from my dealer today and they have 0% interest deals and loyalty rebates on everything but the diesels.

We just got one from Pentagon Federal for 3.99% over 60 months. Anyone can be a member--if you aren't a federal employee, you can pay $20 to join a military family support organization which qualifies you to join the credit union. It is all very streamlined and easy to do on their site. We joined, applied and were approved in 24 hours and got our check with 48--and our credit is good but not amazing. I'd strongly recommend them:

My wife and I just bought a TDI. Best we could get from the dealer was 4.75% for 60 months. But we bot 4.4% from Lockheed Georgia Employee's Community Credit Union. Anyone can be a member. VW was only giving us 4.75% because we were putting $12k down on it, otherwise it would have been closer to 6%. Any we both have a beacon over 810...Sad VW credit. This is our 6th VW and never have we had VW credit do our loan...

Ditto for me. I've been a member for some years with only $5 in my account. Applied for the loan with same fast results as scott_o's.

It's not surprising VW finance isn't offering rate buy downs or other incentives in tdi's. Compared to the gas models these cars sell themselves. I'd rather have a cash discount than a rate buydown just in case something happens over the course of the loan. On a tdi wagon I'd be surprised if either was ever available.

Some CU's offer additional discounts for hybrids and high mileage alternative fuel vehicles. My credit union offers them for car's meeting the EPA's smart way designation (which the tdi does). The dealer I bought from found a better rate than my credit union had at 3.99% if I signed up for automatic payments. Once everything funded and the CU sent me the paperwork it said 4.24%. I called to see if I was setup for automatic payment & was getting the discount and they said they'd look into it. Got a call the next day saying they corrected the rate to show the automatic payment discount + an additonal .25% due to the car being energy efficient. Now I'm at 3.74%.

Needless to say I'm very happy with http://www.firsttechcu.com/ and http://www.obrienvw.com/ for going out of their way to save me money.

Just had to point out the amazing coincidence that not only do we have the exact same car, but we also got our loan from the same place. Though I do not have the splashguards, so at least we know we aren't the same person.

Nice car!!! There's a chance you might see it pass by your way. My wife just got a temporary 2 month assignment in Bothell, WA and I was toying with driving up to see her. It would be an excuse to spend more time in the car. If I do, it'd be nice to stop by and say hi.

I still don't see where this 'credit crunch' is... I have very little credit history, and I still financed through Navy Federal Credit Union (sorry, unlike penfed you DO need to be Active Duty or DoD civilian or contractor) with no problems. I applied online and it returned an approval right away, then 3 days later I got an e-mail from NFCU with an even better offer. Maybe the credit crunch only applies to businesses on the verge of collapse and people with really ****ty credit.
