06 to 96 trans swap

can i put a transmission from a 96 1.9 TDI in my 2006 1.9 TDI (i blew my 5 speed trans out of my 2006 and have a free 1996 5speed trans)

Starting with the mk4 cars (1999), the motor/trans mounts use a lower dogbone looking mount that connects to the bell housing of the transmission.
The 1996 trans will not have that mounting boss.

As well, depending on what chassis the 96 transmission came from it might be a cable-actuated clutch rather than hydraulic.
