06 jetta tdi 5 speed towing capacity

Hello everyone, i have a 06 jetta tdi with 365,000km on the dash. I live in canada and I got the hitch installed by uhaul years ago. I see that the max tow rating i can do here is 1000 lbs, I'd like to get a side by side which weighs 1300lbs and a bigger trailer that weighs 400lbs, can I tow 1700lbs? I've towed many things with my trailer now and probably have got up past 1000lbs and I see that in Europe these cars are rated for 2000lbs.

Is this just stupid to try or do people here do it? I would be towing the sxs probably 4 times a year with only 1 trip being 6 hours away.

It’s doable, just make sure you can stop it. I used to pull a small enclosed trailer and motorcycle with my 09 wagon. Tongue weight should not exceed 200lbs.

I'm about to install a Curt hitch on my '05 TDI wagon, planning to pull a small camping trailer, though not sure which one yet. Thinking of building my own from a small cargo trailer. I'm curious what other people are towing with their TDI's, so post up some picks of your TDI-trailer rig! :cool:
