The guy I got it from has a lot and works with TDI's a lot. he recommended every 4k and that's what I have stuck to. I just turned 190 today and I have new filters on their way for a tune up this weekend. I am on the original cam and would prefer to not have to change that.

I'm at 172k, and just did an outer CV boot. I didn't see that in anyone's list but it's cheap.

DMF at 120k, Front Driver's wheel bearing at 150k, injector harness at 105k, driver's door harness at 100k, original brakes.

I would be over 200k if I had not moved last year.... Only putting on 10k a year now, could be driving this car for the next 30 years!

467,000kms. New DSG flywheel at 445,000. Transmision and DSG flywheel replaced by previously owner at 166,00. Turbo at 417,00 (original), and cam (original) timing and surpentine belt, tensioners, idler pulleys and water pump. New DSG flywheel noisier than old VW one. Runs and starts great average 900kms per tank. Need some paint next spring.

Just purchased an 06 Jetta TDI package 1.VTEX interior in great shape ,body in good shape. The paint is fair few scratches. The previous owner said it had flywheel noise so far I have put about 500 miles no noise. It has a EGR cooler delete with Malone Stage 2.It came with fuel filter, oil filter, flashzilla,Darkside dogbone mount,OEM DSG filter change kit. Also has new AGM Advanced auto battery and new tires from Discount Tires with warranty.Timing belt has about 20,000 miles on it.The vehicle has 249,000 miles on it runs great no leaks.I have no history as for as camshafts or turbos.I purchased it for 2500 dollars so I can afford to put a few dollars into it.Not as fun as my 2010 Sportwagen but nice car overall.

181k been a big pos - just trying to get $ out of it. I'll try to remember all the issues without digging out the receipt book.

52k airbag lights come on - 1 recall and 6 trips to dealer later it's still on at 181k. Gave up that they'll ever work.

Speedo off 5 mph but vw said it was in spec.
85k egr failure and heater core hoses replaced due to expansion from "egr oil leak"

Radio magically adjusts volume in its own and button peeling. Vw reset.

55k Headliner falling down, vw says all posters on tdi club getting theirs repaired are liars. Says I haven't given dealer enough service or owned enough vws to qualify ( family has had 7??) Won't cover under extended service warranty.

45k Speakers fail in door. One dealer replaces one, another dealer says it's my fault and won't replace.
52k door lock fails. Vw replaces but doesn't match other 3 locks. Dealer won't replace all car starts to look mismatched.
120k dmf fails
125k drivers door harness starts to fail and I patch together
130k slowly failing ac finally dies, replace ref press sensor (thanks to this site)
135k drivers harness dies and I replace.
140k mechTronic starts acting up shifting hard.
142k replace drivers drive shaft
145k replace drivers hub
155k egr fails. Mistake on diagnosing on my part but change vacuum tree solenoid, several other solenoids, mass airflow sensor, and up with egr delete.
160k back door latch breaks have to remove skins and replace.
175k alternator pulley dies - replacement part now dying as well (thought Napa sold good parts?)
178k water in passenger side floor board. Check all sunroof drains. Discover sun roof magically opens on its own while car is parked. Noticed this while driving often assume switch has loose connection. Jimmy switch and roof closes for good but scared to move switch as turning to correct function doesn't always work.

Many many little things since we bought certified prepared at 42k. Constant sulfer exhaust smell around the car, low fuel light doesn't work, left lights on warning works when it wants to, replacement dmf is chattering now, water leak on roof around antenna, best mpg was 50 once. Otherwise it's always 40-42 no matter how slow you drive it or aired up tires are. Speedo is off so you're guessing, airbags have never worked, dsg won't shift out of drive from time to time and bangs into 2/3rd, fuel pump gasket leaking. We drive this 70 miles a day for the last couple of years so while these issues seem spread out, in reality they're almost constant.

Neat for all you guys who got a good product! The 300k+ group is insane. Unfortunately this will be my last vw. Any fuel savings over a corolla were eaten up with the dmf/egr repairs.

I just got one with 183k. Cam, TB, FW and clutch and brakes changed within the last 20k miles and I have all the service records. I need to deal with the EGR valve hiss and then flash it with GDE. And then put better tires on the summer rims.

BRM's sure like to eat cams. 183k and mine is still good. People keep saying changing your oil early is doing damage, blah blah. I change mine at 7-8k, mostly hwy driving. My cam is still perfect last time I checked at 170k. Its probably all luck though :D

Had since brand new
original Cam lasted until this week, now in the middle of the rebuild in my driveway
Turbo replaced at 150,000
Transmission replaced at 180,000
Was averaging 45mpg
Great car and loving the longevity my fellow owners are experiencing

Bought an 06 with 260k. Had all rust repaired under the 12 year corrosion warranty. Replaced dmf at 270, just did cam and timing belt at 299. Seems to be running better than ever, next it's the egr delete ( need to heal up from shoulder surgery first). Like it so much more than my all, more roomy cab.

There are just too many to list....
Oil hammer great pic. I think 405k is the highest I’ve seen on a mk5. Had much been done to it?

No, not much. I have one that comes in here with over half million on it.

I personally think ANY car *can* last indefinitely, just needs to be properly cared for. So long as it does not get crashed or rusts away to its core elements, of course.

Some just take more than others to get there. 200k miles is becoming "low" for TDIs in my neck of the woods. I don't even bat an eye at that figure anymore. I have three cars with over 300k on them here right now.

My 06 has 247k miles. I bought it when it had 123k in 2012. Lots of work to keep it running, I was able to save $$$ by doing it myself, but still, come on VW:
Dual mass flywheel
Camshaft (replaced with the one franko6 is offering)
Both axles (raxles)
Both LCA
Suspension
2 RCV valves
1 AC compressor
Cooling fans
Multiple errors caused by the windshield nozzles heating harness being too short at the hood hinge, wires snapped and caused and electric short (took me more than one year to identify)
Re-circulating flap motor (behind the glovebox)
Windshield wiper motor (a pain to remove)
Auxiliary heating element (removed and re-soldered resistors)
ABS error caused by cables under front seats being too short (Sloppy repair done by dealership during the recall)
3 bent rims, like they're made out of cheese.
Corroded audio cable that goes from the radio to the amplifier (under the carpet)
Battery drain issues (driver side front and rear locking modules. Intermittent and annoying overnight battery drain, killed the battery, had to buy a new battery.
Sticking hand brake (removed the center console and adjusted the tension nut).
Replaced frozen rear caliper.
All of the above before reaching 150k.

Currently leaking EGR cooler and some sort of issue with the steering rack. I will end up replacing both of them. Also, I will need to remove the whole front end of the car, just to replace the AC drier. This car always has something that needs to be fixed.
Previous owner had to change the driver door harness, ASV and turbo.
In addition, the normal maintenance, tear and wear expected from such a high mileage: 2 timing belts, rear and front rotors/pads, DSG fluid changed 3 times, and 4 wheel bearings.
Aside from the expected maintenance, I was expecting more reliability from VW. Thank God for the people on this forum and the DIYs from myturbodiesel, for helping me correctly diagnose and solve the issues I have encountered over the years.
One last thing, as you can tell from my avatar, the MPG is good, but not great.

Bought the Jetta for the reliability and mileage capability of a diesel. Unfortunately, I am disappointed in the car, but I do expect it to do 400k before I let it go to the big recycling center in the sky.

If you're disappointed, get rid of it.

New guy here!
Just purchased `06 DSG BRM w 101K, unfortunately I'm gearing up to doing my DMF, but still need to diagnose a strange squealing noise when putting into gear. Mostly an Audi guy, but I've enjoyed this model on the Vdub side. Hoping to get many miles after fixing the trans issue.

Looking like my BRM (In a Passat) is going to have it's life cut short at 160,000km. Weird issue I cannot diagnose posted in the other thread.

My daily driver 2006 VW Jetta TDI 5 speed has 316,000 miles. I'm 3rd owner. I bought it used from a Russian guy who had it maintained by a German guy who knew Volkswagen TDI 's. He shared the longevity additives they do use in Germany...
I have a second 2006 VW Jetta TDI Automatic with 265,000 miles . 2nd Owner. The most important aspect of longevity is timely maintenance/fluid filter changes and using OE fluids and parts. I do all my own maintenance.

Mileage: 245k Miles
Avg MPG: 41 mpg (had a short commute to work for a few years, now have a longer commute)
How many Cams: still on the original cam, Greengeeker checked them at 100k and 200k timing belt changes
How many Turbos: still original
Performance Adders: Malone stage 1.5 tune, SMF & Stage 2 clutch,
Any other issues:
  • Car was totaled when purchased at 49k miles. A good friend did the repairable and I purchased from him. Wasn't able to get 12-year rust fix with "prior salvage" title on car
  • Been using Mobil 1 TDT and 10-11k mile oil changes, and Blackstone Lab oil analysis, they say I'm good for 12k miles, but I've been sticking to 10-11k
  • Installed a FrosterHeater right away
  • Had to adjust timing for the low rpm shake, did this at first timing belt change
  • Front brake pads around 90k miles
  • New intake flap around 100k miles
  • I think that the XM radio function died around 100k
  • Replaced the drivers door harness around 100k miles
  • Rear brake pads around 110k
  • Swapped rear tail lights with a 2009 tdi, as they are a darker red than the 2006 ones
  • Replaced a front right wheel bearing around 165k
  • Replaced a rear wheel bearing around 170k
  • Malone 1.5 tune at 178k miles
  • Replaced second rear wheel bearing around 180k
  • Updated to single mass flywheel and south bend clutch at 180k miles, DMF was failing
  • Replaced the passenger door harness around 200k miles
  • Needed to fix the fuel temp sensor wiring around 200k
  • New front brakes/redid the front right wheel bearing that was done at 165k/ and did the front left wheel bearing all at 215k
  • All new glow plugs at 225k, one was bad, just did them all at once
  • New fuel temp sensor at 230k
  • Front suspension refresh at 240k miles, bushings/tie-rods/ball joints
  • I've replaced all the wheel bearings, needing to do one of them again
  • Need a new headliner

Probably missing something somewhere. Best car I've ever owned, the maintenance above has been no hindrance to my enjoyment with this car. Gonna keep it going for many more years.

After repair, early 2009:

My daily driver 2005.5 has 362K.
Cam shaft, turbo, and clutch replaced at 300K.
Every door actuator has been swapped. 3rd drivers door wiring harness.
Other wise pretty solid. Still averages low 50s mpg.
