Don't know about the hood stack... But a Vnt17 will run a stage 4 Malone.

Thank you also open to any other tuning options, and any supporting mods i should pair with the bigger turbo

Either a taco taco intercooler, or a front mount. Front mount might be a little overkill though for just a stage 4. Not a bad idea to also setup a catch can to keep your intercooler/turbo clean, but not sure how you'd set it up on a BEW.
Is yours an auto or manual? If a manual, you most likely will need a stronger clutch, at least a stage 2 south bend.
If you're going to rid yourself of the egr, you can't go wrong with a pd150 or a BRM intake manifold and an OMI.
At least a 2.5in turbo back exhaust. If the noise is too loud, get a magnaflow for it.

That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure others will chime in.

A good starting place would be to figure out what your power goal is and get a turbo based on that. Here's a guide to help you out. Just remember these power figures are in bhp compared to the way we measure either whp or hp at the crank. Cheatsheet

Depending on what you figure out here are some options from https://pioneering-performance.com/
https://pioneering-performance.com/...1-pd150-arl-gt1752vb-or-gt1756vb-hybrid-turbo
https://pioneering-performance.com/...-9-arl-asz-alh-including-custom-cast-manifold
https://pioneering-performance.com/...-custom-cast-manifold-billet-compressor-wheel
https://pioneering-performance.com/...asz-alh-including-custom-cast-manifold-billet

Hopefully you figure out which turbo you wanna go with.

I used to have a set of PA inspection licenses. Knowing there is supposed to be a cat in the system, I would not have passed a hood stack. I suspect the State Trooper in charge of looking over the establishment records would have backed the shop in that call. On tuning up a diesel, I see no need to rub the authority's nose in something like that...

Also, since you have a PD, what are you going to do for increasing the fuel delivery? The OE noozles will not flow as much as you will want...
cheers,
Douglas

Yeah, ill probably just go 2.5in turbo back and see if the shop can blast pipe it nothing crazy just little. And no clue i havent looked into it yet. A dude on one of the tdi pages im on on facebook sells upgraded injectors but their for alh. I know the engines are basically the same but dont know if its enough of a difference for me not to grab those

Injectors on an alh are completely different from the bew.

For a vnt-17vb, BEW stock injectors are fine. Going with bigger injectors is expensive on the PD platform.

Yep...sure is. Going rate is OTO $1200. Working my way into justifying this as a PM item. Replace before one fails and melts a piston sounds like a fine idea. 1043's here I come... :) Or maybe just get DLC800's...LOL With the same philosophy applied to a VNT17 replacement for a KP39.

If you're going to get a bigger turbo you might as well do it right the first time imo.
I'd recommend getting one of these depending on what your budget is and how much power you would like to make in the end.
GARRETT TURBO GTB1756VK 6+6 BILLET WHEEL
GTB2060VKLR VKLR
GTD1756VRK
GTD1752VRK

Then you can get a used set of PD150 nozzles pretty reasonable from a few different places.
You'll have call to see what Chris has in stock or can get. https://www.korwerksllc.com/

https://www.darksidedevelopments.co...di-pd150-arl-injector-set-038-130-073-al.html

I'm sure there'll be some other parts you'll need along the way that I'm forgetting, but that should get you started. :) (y)

I can't tell from the pictures in the links above, but the 1.9 BEW replacement turbos all have electronic ports/ smart actuators? I was looking at a replacement turbo from gottuned.com in Poland and asked me if my turbo has a standard vacuum actuator (not electronic). This confused me because I know many replace their KP39s with VNT 17s and from pics I have seen, there looks like there is a port on the actuator meaning its the smart actuator. I know over in europe they deal alot of different diesel variations. I believe I need to have the smart actuator for US 2004 VW 1.9 TDI BEW? Not a standard vacuum actuator. Found your post searching for replacement turbos... mine died...lol

I guess it all depends on what turbo you go with. If you go with a VNT-17 or even a VNT-17/22 you could run a smart actuator, but if you're going get one of those turbos you're going to need to get your car tuned to take advantage of the new turbo. The tuner would also be able to tune out the need for a smart actuator, so you could then run just about any turbo you want really.

Here are a few of the tuners I'd recommend:
https://malonetuning.com/
http://tdtuning.com/TD/
Tekmektronics
http://www.rocketchip.com/

Good luck and hopefully you figure out what turbo to go with. (y)

I bought the VW TDI a couple years ago to put less miles on my R32. I have been stashing parts, PD150 manifold, Darkside Development intake, replaced my nozzles on a second set of used PD100 injectors, suspension was replaced last year, transmission replaced just before covid started... The previous owner did a very poor job of maintaining the vehicle, it was just a matter of time for something else to fail...lol. Thanks for answering my turbo question...it seemed alot of pictures online did not completely match what was being sold... Found a place for the Malone tuning and to install my parts.

I hear you on not wanting to put too many miles on a certain car. I bought my TDI back in 2008 and have slowly built it up over the years. It sure is nice with a TDI to not care too much about how many miles you put on it, since it gets such great fuel economy and they hold together really well as long as you keep up on the maintenance with them. I've seen odometers over 500k miles and they're still out there driving around.

Glad to help you out. Yeah it can be kind of confusing, since there are so many different options out there when it comes to turbos for the 1.9L TDI. It's great to hear that you found a place to tune your car and a place to install your parts as well.

If you ever need any suggestions on what vendors to use when you need to replace something or just want to upgrade a part of the car, just send me a pm.
